Hello everyone. I’ve gathered you all here today cuz I need some help. I’m trying to fix my dad’s old .270. Serial number has it made around 1956. The rifle has quite a bit of sentimental value to it, even shot my first deer with it. What I need is a stock and forearm, or at least a stock because that’s what’s cracked. I’ve scoured the internet without much luck and Boyd’s tells me they only make the fore end. The kicker is I’d like to stick with wood. Not some ugly AF plastic. Any ideas?

I’m not 100% certain but I think those are for newer models.

I'm pretty sure that 760, 6, 7600, 740, 742, 4, 7400 all use the same stock. Biggest difference from early through current would be checkering pattern and plastic butt plate instead of AL.

MidWest Gun Works has them for new rifles in matte or gloss finish.

The finish on a 1950's model would be closer to oil than the gloss or matte urethane finishes available now. 1950's model would have a very small checkered panel on the pistol grip and vertical lines on the forearm commonly called "corn-cob" fore-ends.

Might be worth a call down to Ahlman's (and any other gunsmith you can find a number for) to see if they have a "parts-gun" they'd rob the wood off of for you.

Most cracked stocks can be fixed. Unless it's missing wood I would just fix the crack. May have to put a couple of pins in it.

Tried that. The guy at HH Guns said it was beyond repair.

The case head is in the bottom of the receiver and in front of the mag. It's not in the stock.
