Update: We got 460+ pounds of deboned meat off of this bull. He was a giant bodied animal for ND. We came home with around 250 lbs of ground burger, nearly 90 lbs of 1/2 inch cut steaks, put 75 pounds towards sausage (150 lbs or so brought home since we mixed 50/50 or so), 25 lbs of strip jerky and an assortment of 3 lb rump roasts. And yes, it's straight up delicious boys and girls. It filled up one of our big chest freezers completely and right at half of the other big chest freezer. Thanks to everyone for the nice words to my wife. She's said multiple times now how this has been the best experience of her life so far with all the positive vibes. Cheers!

Have you decided upon who is doing the mount and how you are going to have it done?

Can’t show off all the tricks on the honeymoon, otherwise they get bored and leave. A once in a lifetime archery bull moose is a hell of a chip to play and should buy many happy years in that household. Congrats again!

Nevada Miller will be doing the mount. Will probably be a corner pedestal type mount with a slight turn to the left.

We are already in talks for another moose hunt, but she is really pushing to shoot a caribou. Will take some
time to save up, but we are going to make it happen.

Should have weighed it. Sounds like she shot a world record. We butcher a 2000LB beef for hamburger every year and that only yields 375 to 450 lbs of meat. Considering that an adult bull will weigh at most 1400 lbs, it must have been on steroids.

What the hell kind of beef are you butchering that weighs 2k on the hoof? Unless you're butchering bulls for burger you should check your scale.

Are you butchering your own or do you have a butcher shop do it?

The yield of edible meat from a beef carcass often comes as a bit of a surprise, even to those that have had their own meat processed for years. A previous iGrow article covered dressing percent—the percent of the live animal weight that becomes carcass weight, which for fed beef is usually around 62-64%. In other words, from a 1200 pound steer, you can expect a 740 – 770 pound carcass. But from that carcass there is another significant portion that will not end up in your freezer or in the meat case for consumers. The expected yield of retail cuts from beef carcasses ranges from approximately 55% to 75%, depending on the fatness and muscling of the animal, and the type of cuts produced. A typical 750 carcass with ˝ inch of fat over the rib eye and average muscling of a 12-13 square inch rib eye will yield about 65% of the carcass weight as retail cuts (roasts and steaks) and lean trim. So, in other words, you start with a 1200 pound steer, which has a dressing percent of 63%, so that you have a 750 pound carcass. From that you will get about 65% of the carcass weight, or roughly 490 pounds, as boneless, trimmed beef.

So, if you are butchering your own baloney bull (that's what we used to call them when I worked at the livestock here in town, we would load 30 to 35 on a semi to ship to the wiener(hotdog) factory) you are leaving to much on the carcass and feeding way to much to the coyotes or if you are having it butchered............ your butcher is stealing half your hamburger.

Voodoo, you must not be too familiar with ND moose/Canadian moose and/or butchering. There were multiple other bulls taken this year in ND that yielded well over 400 lbs of deboned meat.

I work with 2 guys that have both taken good bulls within the last few years, one got 425 lbs, and the other got 450 lbs off his.

Maybe your butchering skills are not up to par?

Jealousy is a smelly cologne sir.
