Is he a native? If so I doubt he will get much of a penalty for this if it’s on the Rez.

Within the confines of the reservation yes. But neither the state park or the deeded ground the deer was on is tribal. Now, how that whole mess of it all will work out who knows, but bottom line is when/where the trigger was pulled, and where the deer was when shot, are not within tribal jurisdiction in my book. That is the crap deal with having state and tribal tags, along with a mix of deeded and tribal land. Too much of this stuff goes on, guys shooting deer here and there regardless of where they "should" be. And who knows how the herd management between the state and tribal agencies is, gotta be hard when you only know half the harvest. Hope the guy gets what is coming, even if it came off the pay to play ranch. I know people who have shot elk there, doesn't suit my desires but each to their own.

I wonder what the "going rate" on something like that might be?

A 300" very average elk was $5000 I believe. So A LOT would be my answer!

It's $5995 for a 3 day hunt for a deer up to 160" and it's $45,000+ for a 500" elk. Being a 270" deer is almost as rare as a 500" elk, I'd wager the buck would be valued at or near the 500" elk. That's an estimate of the value of the deer itself once the owners decide it's time to harvest him. Throw in the loss of semen that may be obtained from that buck and the potential revenue generated from semen sales and AI-ing your own herd and the actual damages could be much more than the hunt price offered.

There's probably some available when you have guys with that kind of coin, but I'm also pretty sure that they would be at an extra charge.

I bird hunt from the casino south and can't tell you how many poached or wasted deer i have seen in the last 20 years!!! It's pretty sickening!! Also the number of deer one person can shoot being a "registered or designated" shooter for one family can be mind boggling!! I am really surprised at the number of deer there actually is because there isn't a piece of buckbrush that hasn't been Driven around 27 times!!!

A good Christian, church going lad like myself wouldn’t know what to do with hookers and blow on a hunt.

I have been there and didn't really care for the terrain. The dirt is a sugar sand and will blow out in a hurry if tilled or over grazed.

In 1998 their neighbors raised a bunch of kosha weed on some tilled ground (kosha loves that sugar sand) and then the kosha rolled up against the fence. A high wind came up started snapping thick wooden posts.

I think it is a gawd awful area only good for a grazing animal. Population of Timber Lake, 443. There is a reason so few people live there.

i love that area and not alot of people living there is a bonus not a negative. Where this deer was shot they did not even own in 98.
