I just purchased a Savage Axis II XP, heavy barrel, accutrigger, 6.5 CM with a bushnell 4x12x40 scope (which I plan to change once it arrives), found it new for $275 so thought what the heck.

From what I have read the reviews all seemed pretty good, does anyone on here have one? If so, what are the good, bad, and ugly of gun?

Thanks,

Pat

I bought the kid one. Pretty good gun except for the scope which is an easy fix. She also had a hard time keeping the magazine in the gun this year. I don't know if it was the gun or her not securing it properly.

Just found flyer again, I guess it is just Savage Axis XP, not the II XP. Though it was. Sorry...

It’s a great gun! I have the Axis XP in 7mm 08. My only gripe was the trigger is HEAVY. Not a problem with the Axis II XP and the accu trigger. I switched out the spring so it’s now pulling about 2.5 lbs instead of the factory 5.5. It was a $8 spring. I have the accuttigger on my 375 and honestly don’t feel the hype. I don’t have the time to reload, and it was very picky on which factory ammo it would shoot. It’s right on now that I narrowed that issue down.

The gun gave this caribou a pill at 624 yds and dropped it. Eseamands’ wife has the exact same gun and I believe she has kills out to 400 yds with hers. Ive taken whitetail, caribou, mtn goat, and black bear with it. Great gun for the price!

Great to hear, I do reload my ammo so that will be a whole other dilemma that I need to figure out down the road.

I had 3 rifles to buy at the same time, so had a budget to consider. Was looking at the Savage Axis II, the Remington 783, and the Mossberg Patriot. Savage was the clear winner IMO. Bought 3 in 243 and have been pleased with all of them. Two only have paper kills since deer tags don't come easy, but one of my sons dropped a buck with one shot with his. I don't think you'll be disappointed when taking into consideration the price.

I think there is a 75$ rebate on the axis now as well. Dickinson runnings has an axis with no scope in 25-06 for 250 minus the 75 mail in rebate not a bad gun for under 200.

I had one in .223 that cloverleafed paper at 125yds. Any time you have a gun that shoots that good it should never be sold. However, I got the AR habit that needed funding.

Curious...where did you find the rifle, Trapper? Kind of peaked my interest. Think I can fit another rifle in my safe...
