7mm Rem Mag vs 300 Win Mag

I never notice recoil or "loudness" when hunting. On the bench I always wear hearing protection.

I'm half deaf already anyway sooooo there's that.

I want to thank everyone for the input thus far. So far what I have determined is that I need to get both the 300 and 7mm, but should also add a .280AI and another .270win. But can't stop there, should also add some short magnums in the calibers mentioned. Will also need a bigger gun safe.

Brakes aren't loud to the shooter. The people on either side of you won't be your friend.

I bought my first 300 Win Mag in Ruger 77R in 1979 for 159.00. And started reloading for it right away. I have shot Hornady 165 gr Interlocks its whole life. They have killed Moose, Elk, Mule Deer and Whitetail. I couldn't ask for better results. Then in 1983 I bought a 7mm in a Ruger 77R. I started reloading for it right away. And have only shot 139 gr Hornady Interlocks. Again I couldn't asked for better results.

There both excellent cartridges, and either one will work.

Pick one and start shooting it.

If you are just shooting factory ammo pick either one and put great glass on it they will both do whatever you want out to 600 yards. if you really get into shooting you will end up scrapping whatever you have now and selling it or putting it in the safe, and start reloading and shooting a custom then making fun of everyone who doesn’t shoot an exclusive round with a bc over .654.

Either caliber is good. I have a ruger American magnum in 7mm with a brake and it really doesn’t have any more recoil than my feather weight m77 in 308. It’s not bad for the shooter but by standers hate me when I’m shooting. It’s more of a personal choice. Manufacturers offer so many different loads for both you can find on that you and the gun like. I favor hornadys 162 eldx bullet and the gun likes them also. Whatever you chose have fun and good luck!

I've been reloading for a good long while and don't shoot any projectiles in any rifles hunting or target with a BC of .654 or higher.

The 2 hunting rounds I shoot the most have a BC of .336 and .404. Barnes TSX .257/100's and .277/140's.

G-1, I can honestly say I'm not even close to good enough with any rifle for G-1 vs. G-7 BC measurements to make any discernible difference in what I do or how I do it.

Just wondering because alot of the balistic programs now take and convert the g1 right to g7

I’m no expert and everyone wants to say they shoot a magnum of some sort. Looking at ballistic charts, with the right ammo a 308 will work just fine out to 500 yards. Doesn’t drop much more than a 300 and energy out there isn’t that far off. I know that’s not the popular opinion and some one will tell me I’m nuts but so be it. Sure would be more pleasurable to shoot in a light rifle.

Never had a Elk or Deer get away when using my 300 mag. Had a yote try once, 3 diffrent direction at once, didnt even walk out to see.
