Greatly appreciate the heads up. I figured with the warm weather it thinned out the ice a bit. I plan on walking out there now.

The warm weather didn't thin the ice that much. That must of been a bad spot all along. What part if the lake was that?

That looks like the edge of a pressure ridge that he was trying to get around. There has not been near enough warm weather to even begin to have any affect on the ice. A few days of mid forties will do nothing to the ice.

Wow its crazy how much rattlesnake point has changed the last few years. I remember seeing geese nest on top of that pier

Be careful on Tschida (or any western ND reservoir) for the next couple weeks. The warm weather we had a little while back has produced runoff and shorelines in particular may be a little iffy as incoming water rots the ice and rising water levels lifts the ice along the shore.

In particular, Tschida has come up about half a foot so far. While this isn't a heck of a lot, it's not nothing.

Oh yeah, and I too think the above pic looks like the guy encountered a pressure ridge. Those are always hairy...

pressure ridges at confusing and have always freaked me out, up at Winnipeg I have drilled next to many of them and it is never the same, sometimes you drilling less ice and then all of the sudden you are drilling almost past your auger extension. pretty crazy stuff.

I have heard from a pretty good source that the truck in the above post was pulled out of the lake at a pretty good expense. They cut ice from shore all the way out to the truck, sent divers down, hooked her up and pulled her out all at a cost of $ 100,000. Yow!!
