I Don't think so, on your call of a Yamaha engine on the bigfoot. how in the hell could a mercury engine made in Fon Du Lac Wisconson, get a Yamaha tag???

What year? There were quite a few early 4-stroke Merc's w/Yamaha powerheads. Someone will remember better than me, but, I believe if it's a Carb'd Merc 4-stroke 40HP or larger it's a Yamaha. Newer EFI 4-stroke would be all Merc, except for the small ones made by Tohatsu. Clear as mud?

Much like the BWJ's (Big White Johnson's) 4-Strokes were re-badged Suzukis.

Yamaha made powerheads for merc for some time. What all models I can’t recall but I knew at one time. They even had Yamahas symbols cast in the blocks

Lincoln, kinda...
Yep, Merc bought Yamaha 4S engines and married them up to Merc lower units for a number of years. Late nineties through early 200s?

I love my Yamaha 4S. That SOB has been nothing but dependable.

I’ve noticed they aren’t moving very well. I wouldn’t touch one myself.

Lots of lost $$ both from current owners who are likely to take a giant hit in selling price whenever they decide to sell as well as dealers who spent big $$ keeping techs trained and tooling up to date. Blech!!

Lots of cash for sure. Sad deal really. Those 'rudes could really pop out of the water.
