That's a lot of unnecessary work IMO. Why not just fillet them like other fish?

This is similar to how we skin bullheads but catfish can be filleted easier.

Nice work young man!

I have cleaned only a couple catfish and tried to fillet them like one would a walleye. It didn't work so well for me. The rib bones are still pretty darn thick on a catfish and to me that made it a pain in the bum to try to fillet like normal. I don't normally keep catfish, but every once in a while a couple make it into the livewell.

Again, good job on the video young man!

On a catfish we fillet around the rib bones not thru them like a walleye. Like in this video starting at the 2 minute mark:

Just fillet like any other fish. So much easier. And use an electric knife. Why people don't use an electric knife is beyond me. I can fillet five walleye in about three minutes with an electric knife. Plus very little waste meat. They chop through the ribs with absolutely no problem.

Electric knife is tops. Menards sells a tapered sharpener that works great to touch up serrated blades.

Good job young man. A shout out to the person who took the time to teach him. Very good thing you did and it kept him away from the video games for a while.

Love the T-shirt: "Oh Snap!" haha

Guys - leave a comment on his video and give it a thumbs up! I imagine it's thrilling to see that others approve of what he's doing!

Whether you agree with his method or not, it's very cool to see a kid his age doing this. I fillet my catfish and may consider trying this method just to say I've done it.

Great job kid!
