Was with a buddy that hunted speed goats last weekend. He was shooting a 6.5x300 weatherby. That is a lethal load.

I bought one last year as well.
Its nice having the same ft lbs at 400 yards as the creedmoor does at the muzzle.
But I still reach for my 25 year old STW majority of the time, thing just plain puts them down in their tracks.

why did they stop?

- - - Updated - - -

making the Fieldcraft

The word on their website was Gov't contracts for their sniper rifles was eating up all of their production time. Good for them! They've been way behind on producing their Rec7 and Rec10 AR's supposedly for the same reason.

Oh I have a 6.5 man bun too....haven't killed anything with it yet. Maybe this year, or maybe I'll just use my 308 again. :D

I thought about a creedmoor, but went with a 6.5x284. I had one built and it shot so good, I had another one built. They sure shoot good and I never looked back. If someone is going to have a 6.5 built look at the 6.5x284. If I was to build another 6.5 it would be the 6.5-300 Wby. I have the 25-300 Wby and its a heck of round.20190515_184205.jpg

When/if availability of reloading components settles down I sort of have an idea for a "hunting weight" 6PRC. 6.5PRC brass seems to be in mighty short supply and I'm not building something if I can't source several hundred pieces of brass to form with up front.

I guess I'll just have to plod along with the boring old 270Win for a while longer......

I have a question forgive me since I'm ignorant when it comes to ballistic, I am wondering since the 270 and the 280 basically use the same shell casing 30-06 other then the caliber of course. How is it that you can load a 270 with a higher kpsi (65Kpsi) then a 280 (60Kpsi) if they use the same shell casing?

Bought a new 6.5 creedmoor Tikka T3x Lite Roughtech. Topped her with a 6-24x50 vortex. Since the first round, it's been a dream to shoot. Call it what you want, I enjoy shooting the gun.

DirtyMike my wife doesn't know you from Jack, but after this post she will defiantly hate your guts as I will be buying one!! :;:rockit

I own one and shot a few deers with it. Felt like it took my man card away so switched to a 30-378 Weatherby.

I do like the 6.5. The 6.5 x 300 or 6.5x284 would probably be the route I would go of i bought one today.

I'll never get rid of my .308. It shoots everything from 110gr to 200gr bullets, and once I find the magic recipe, it shoot so well it's almost boring. I bought daughter #1 a Fencepost 6.5 manbun, and have been amazed at how well it has shot everything, out of the box. Haven't started re-loading for it yet, but I have shot Hornady branded ammo, and Federal using 130gr Barnes & Berger....and everything has been way sub-moa....she loves it.

I have also been intrigued by the 6mm manbun, and probably a candidate for daughter #2.

My 6.5 Grendel for my AR has been a different story....by far the most frustrating thing to shoot, ever, for me. With the exception of some Berger (hybrid target), I'm looking at 4-5" groups at 100 yards....i've seen better groups out of a Mosin shooting steel case at a 100 yards than this Grendel.

this brought back some bitter memories dredged up from bout 30 years ago... i know where you're at with the grendel...

i had 2 or 3 really nice 22 hornets i tried to work up loads for... spent lots of cash and way more time and could never get any of them dialed in... most frustrating cartridge i ever loaded...

best i ever saw was 2" groups at 100 - junk...

Feed it some 143 gr ELDX hornady’s and have a good time. I initially went into Scheels to buy a Ruger American. Couldn’t walk past the tikka rack without trying them out. I like the rough tech since it had a threaded barrel already.

The Creedmoor family of cartridges has been and will continue to be the most effective launch of a new chambering to date. First and foremost, they started with a cartridge that doesn't rattle your fillings on every shot. Then they got the magazine OAL capacity and chamber dimensions in harmony while also looking @ where projectile R&D was going in order to get the twist correct not only for current offerings, but, also projectiles they assumed would come in the future. Now, the popularity has soared because it's easy to shoot well. As such, the price to shoot it will continue to fall as the volume of ammo loaded for it rises. The relatively low cost to shoot the rifle means more shooting, more practice, which makes people better shooters, some of which they'll attribute to the chambering.

That was a damn fine post SD. Do you agree Rem also was tone deaf about their .17 when the HMR craze began?

One hairpin in the manbun verses 2.

I've always been a Springfield Armory fan. I'm rather curious about these:

I'd love to shoot one.

Me no care who you be, that's fugging funny!

Buddy of mine has been shooting a PRC for a few years now, he has mentioned the brass problem a few times.
