Ice fishing...In October?

A couple years back it never froze good down here. Didn’t even have the big fishing tournament just the drawings. Can’t say I was disappointed.

The way it looks now it will be close to Christmas till we get any good ice. Most of the big lakes are wide open. And the sloughs are opening back up. I like ice fishing but can’t say that I’m not enjoying this weather. Lots of nice days to get some work done.

According to my fishing logs, there's only been 2 years in the past 20+ years that I haven't been on the ice (generally Audobon) by Thanksgiving weekend. The latest was the first weekend in December. I've actually had permanent ice shacks out by the first week of December several years. As of now, I'm saying minimum two weeks for safe walkable ice, and that's really being optimistic.

Yeah I think it will be December now before we get on, hopefully by first weekend.
