Galwhofishes drew an any elk tag. We’ve been patiently working our buns off but have yet to find elk. Have learned a great deal about elk and landowner management - some very good - some pretty bad.

We’ve got some property that many others have shot elk on in past years, hoping to do that ourselves this year. But it’s getting late and when it’s this late we’re on blizzard away from eating tag soup.

Have heard of several opportunities of “private land hunts” for those that want to spend the $, but that rubs us the wrong way. Not sure why, just does. I don’t begrudge those others that have found a way to monetize it. We’ve just never asked for money for access to elk.

Anywho - if you encounter huntable elk in E2 plz message me. I’m getting nervous for galwhorainspositive.

Basics for now. I hurt pretty bad. Ha ha.

One of seven small/medium bulls we saw work into ravine.

Made some moves, got lucky, one passed into shooting lane.

Wapiti Woman made perfect shot with 6.5. Elk expired very close to where shot.

Collapsed in frozen bog full of bull cattle footprints. Broke six ankles dressing bull. Just Gal and I - took a hella long time - we’re total rookies.

200 yd pack out through slumps/bog. Way harder than I had imagined.

Gal spotted them herself. That was cool. It was the first elk we saw and we’ve probably hunted 9 days since opener.

I’m going to go check myself into physical rehab now. :)

Here’s how we found him.

I have tagged pics - but what fun is that. Got excited and took pics then tagged it right before we dug in.

Did you skin and quarter where it fell? very nice.

yes - Randy Newburg gutless deal - new to me

but I spilled the guts to get to tenderloins once everything else was off

Gal wants the hide tanned hair on. My mom has one and it’s pretty cool on the wall. That was a PITA retaining full hide on ground.

Did you guys know an elk hide weighs 1500 lb? Pretty sure anyway.
