6.5 300, 6.5 284 I haven’t looked a lot into the 6.5 cal but I know there are faster 6.5s. There are also bigger calibers that have better bc if that’s all a person is chasing.

there are and they all come with a cost. You don’t get to shove that much powder down a small hole with out consequences.

With what you are saying it sounds like you should run some more charts lol. What bullet and muzzle velocity are you running in your 6.5 creedmoor?

143 eldx at 2810 . Range and dial. elevation is simple to plug in to a calculator . Range finders have taken the need for super velocity minimal. If that’s what your chasin burn those bbls up.

The wind is drift matters more than dialing for elevation imo. So is a .270 win a barrel burner?

I have two 6.5 Creedmoor's, one 24 inch sporter and one 26 inch heavy barrel. I use a suppressor on both. Factory 140 gr out of the 24 inch is 2700 fps just as Hornady advertises on the box. Velocity from the same box of shells in the 26 inch is 2875 fps. With R26 velocity in the 26 inch is 3035 fps.

What Chrono are you using? Did you chrono both rifles on the same day? 175FPS via 2" of bbl with no other variable's changed seems like an anomaly.

You have assumed the roll of the 6.5 creedmoor “bully” since the the days of FBO. Your closed mind to anything other than the 6.5 creedmoor clouds your judgment.

Every single caliber is awesome and has its own merits. If you like slow heavy bullets shoot those, if you like super fast speeds go for it. There is no better caliber or case than the other. It’s like looking at a ratchet set and saying one size of ratchet is better than the other. Good day!

I am going to buy a new Browning Hells Canyon 6.5 creedmoor. Mostly to be used by my kids and wife. Plan to eventually put a suppressor on it. I also will be loading my own rounds for it. Should I get the Speed version with 22" barrel or long range with 26" barrel? Since it will mostly be used by my kids, I am leaning towards the Speed ( lighter and not as long with suppressor on it). Any thoughts?

Make sure you check the barrel threads on the one you buy. I bought a speed in .300 2 years ago and then found out it had goofy metric threads. When looking for an adapter I was told the metric threads are too shallow and could wreck either the can or the barrel if I shoot a bunch with it. For what it's worth, I sold that gun and bought a tikka t3 roughtech which I like better so far anyway.

I would definitely go with the 22 inch barrel if putting a suppressor on

When i started out the old man gave me a man's rifle which was really to big for me. Had little success. Hard to handle and half way scare to shoot.
Got the kids a youth rifle in 7mm08 and later they graduated up. i feel it was more important to get a rifle and caliber that would fit their body at first. Speed meant little to me at that stage. Grand kids the same. db

Yes both of those rifles snd a 22 inch 308 and an 18 inch 308 loaded with 200 gr ELD-X.

Did you really see 175fps difference with +2" of barrel, or was that a typo?

Yes, and I was expecting 50fps per inch. I suppose different powders would give 25 fps and some 100 fps per inch. Its the only thing I can think of. The fellow I have been hunting with for 40 years bought the Ruger Predator with the 22 inch barrel. I forget what he is getting with factory, but one day when we were chronograohing I told him try this. It was my 140 ELD-M loaded with R26 shich gives ne 3035 in a 26 inch barrel. I was hooeing he would get 2850. He got 2977 which really left me scratching my head. I am still scratching my head over that one. I need to chronograph my 24 inch with that load. I was hooeing gor 2900 with it. Now I wonder if for some crazy reason his shorter barrel will beat mine. I dont know.

i really need to try some r26 those speeds are impressive just to lazy to get away from old reliable h4350. I got gifted a couple pounds of heavy shot and a mec reloader just what I need another rabbit hole to go down reloading shot gun shells. Also got a couple thousand aa hulls think I might shoot trap this year.

PG, what chrono?
:( dang I'm getting old I had to go look. It's a Chrony Beta. Since you questioned this I had to get into my programs where I shoot at 800 yards with a 100 yard zero then use the minutes of angle that I have to adjust to to verify my velocity. I think other things enter into this because it often doesn't agree with my Chrony, or my scope. For example I did this with my 300 Win Mag and adusting velocity said I had to use 3060 fps for a 210 gr bullet out of a 28.5 inch barrel. My Chrony said 3017fps. So I set up a yard stick at 50 yards, I know 100 yards would have been better, but I did this in my yards so multiplied by 2. Anyway the problem was the Nikon scope when dialed to 20 minutes of angle actually gave me 21 inches (or something like that). So I believe 3017fps was right, but I have to leave the program at 3060 to hit things at 1000 yards.

I have Vortex PST scopes first focal plane on both rifles. Checked against the yard stick trick they track perfect. They do however disagree with my Chronograph again. Evidently my reloads which copy Hornady factory of 41.5gr of H4350 get 2750fps out of my 24 inch barrel and 2825 fps out of my 26 inch barrel. More of what both of us would have expected. The only hitch here is the 24 inch barrel verification was at 45 degrees and the program for the 26 inch barrel I evidently forgot to enter temperature because it's at the 59 degree default. I always forget things and often have to chronograph everything about six times. Looks like I have more chronographing ahead of myself. By the way my chrono said 3035 for the 140 ELD-M in my 26 inch and I have it programed for 3025fps and verified at 800 and 1200 yards so close.

Well now I have to dump the r26 down the toilet
;) Ya it's junk. You should send it to me. :;:thumbsup

SDMF here are some pics you may find interesting. I scrolled down on the pic and the factory load was Dec6, 2019. and it even gave me a map of where I was, but no temp. The first is a factor Hornady The R26 loads were August 30, 2019 20191206_104229.jpgThis is 46 gr R2620200830_143306.jpgThis is 47gr R2620191206_104535_001.jpgThis is 48gr R2620191206_104750.jpgThis is Minutes of angle holdover for 819 yards20191206_111105.jpg

It's a Chrony Beta.

Is that 175FPS in 2" difference repeatable? I'm on my 3rd Chrony and a passing cloud or clouds burning off to bright sunlight can change velocity of the very same load in the very same rifle.

Do your R26 loads follow the same vast disparity between the 24" and 26" rifles?

Get yourself a Labradar and sun and clouds have no effect on it. I was running a P35 Oehler and it would give me issues. Once I purchased the Labradar and the easy set up, its the only way to go. I can set it up in less that 5 mins.

I've owned a LabRadar since early 2016. I was wondering what PG was using. Dad got a P35 in the early 90's.
