This was Lake Darling today just north of the boat ramp by the ranger station.


Looks like a few open spots farther north along the east side of the lake also.

There have been years like 2012 where the river in Bismarck never froze over. I know, I was fishing in the boat the 3rd week of Jan, 20112.


Given the weather forecast, there's a decent chance we will develop ice cover next week.

We have more geese on the lake down here now than all year. Only a month late. Wonder how soon the snow geese show up.

This feels like winter 2016...never cut thru more than 20 inches of ice...had the boat on Sak last week of March...ice in the bays was all gone.

Check out the Sky Spy Photos on KFYR site and there is someone standing by ice blown up on shore somewhere on Sakakawea, that is impressive, some of the stacked ice looks a good foot or thicker. The stack is 10-12 ft + tall!! Makes a person think how violent that probably was.

Anyone know how the ice is on Jamestown Reservoir?

I was at the res last Friday out of Pelican Pt. There was a pressure ridge on the near shore, with a trail through it along the edge. Ice was good, 15-16” and there were several trucks out, and some smaller outfits headed across the Lake to the east. I’m thinking of bringing my tandem there next weekend, plan on using a dolly with my ranger.

Buddy fished Garrison Bay Monday...said he had 18 inches everywhere he drilled. I'm gonna give Centennial Bay a shot Saturday.

Not the area you asked about but there was around 24" south of mallard last Monday. Good luck!
