The National Rifle Association announced that it intends to restructure as a nonprofit based in Texas and has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections.

“The move will enable long-term, sustainable growth and ensure the NRA’s continued success as the nation’s leading advocate for constitutional freedom — free from the toxic political environment of New York,” the gun advocacy group said in a statement Friday.

The NRA added that it has been incorporated in New York for approximately 150 years.

“This strategic plan represents a pathway to opportunity, growth and progress,” NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said in a statement. “Obviously, an important part of this plan is ‘dumping New York.’ The NRA is pursuing reincorporating in a state that values the contributions of the NRA, celebrates our law-abiding members, and will join us as a partner in upholding constitutional freedom.”

LaPierre dubbed the decision Friday a “transformational moment in the history of the NRA.”

The move comes after the NRA was sued by New York Attorney General Letitia James in a bid to dissolve the group.

James accused the NRA of an array of “illegal conduct,” according to a press release at the time describing the suit, including “[the] diversion of millions of dollars away from the charitable mission of the organization for personal use by senior leadership, awarding contracts to the financial gain of close associates and family, and appearing to dole out lucrative no-show contracts to former employees in order to buy their silence and continued loyalty.”

The NRA has filed a counter claim, calling the initial suit politically motivated.

6th paragraph! I think they wanted to move to a more friendly gun approval state!

This is Wayne LaPierre’s “intern” who was put up in a $4,600/mo DC apartment. This is how your NRA contributions were used to protect the 2nd Amendment.

There is no path, plan, nor way forward as long as WLP is at the helm. That summbitch needs to be tarred/feathered on his way out.

So the NRA is basically saying don’t ever donate to us again as we will mis manage the funds and lose face during a critical time when gun legislation is about to hit the table.

Well, I seriously doubt that WLP is going to drive his own car to work in a steel building in an industrial park.

There is no question that the NRA under WLaP has some serious issues that they need to correct if they even can correct them with the current NRA administration.

However I haven't heard that New York Attorney General Letitia James ever went after the Clinton Global Initiative tax exempt outfit when 90+% of their distributions were on salaries and admin expenses of their employees.

I guess it's all about your political persuasion.

Why move to TX when that state is turning blue ?!?!?
maybe to help keep it from turning blue. As a nation unto themselves they would finally be able to secure their southern border. That alone would help a ton to keep from turning blue. And many of the blues would leave Texas and move to the liberal US

Man made lakes covered with a a dome and heat setting at 67 and if you like to ice fish dig deeper and use a plexi glass bottom as flooring with 8" holes..anything can be done. But yes I'd give up anything to remain free and make my own decisions.

One wrong thing doesn't make the other wrong thing right.
Punishing one without punishing the other also doesn't make it right. When someone uses their power given to them by the government to prosecute their political foes while ignoring the very same crimes by their political ally should face criminal charges themselves.
