I have been picking up supplies to start reloading so I don’t have to rely on the stores to have ammo.

Question on powder: does anyone use Win 760 in any of their loads? Found some at a local store and my hornady book has some loads for it. It seems like many use IMR but that stuff is impossible to find.

Any other tips for a first timer reloaded?

It sometimes is difficult to find all the info you need from the reloading books. Sometimes if you just look on the internet, for example you could google Win 760 and find info on different loads for that powder. You are correct that it is very difficult to find reloading supplies. right now a good lesson is that you cannot have to large of a supply of reloading supplies.

Winchester 760 has the same burn rate as H414. I use it in my 22-6MM AI and 6MM AI. Works good in my 220 Swift

My recommendation is to choose powders that have flexibility across multiple cartridge classes. This isn’t ideal for accuracy in the long run, but it will keep you up and running in the short term.

Look at the different reloading manuals, look at cross cartridge powders for similar classes and use those if available.

Bad time to get into reloading. I recently just started my self. Look at a burn rate chart and find what powders you want to try. Keep watching bisman for powders and get ready to overpay. Just picked up some h4350 today.

760 is good in the 22-250, 243Win, 25-06, 270Win, 30-06 as well as the other mentioned earlier. It's just a tad faster burning than IMR4350.

What chamberings are you wanting to reload for? The group can give you some ideas/options to try if we know what you're loading.

W760 gave me the best accuracy in a couple of 243 I once owned. Also as someone mentioned its interchangable with H414 which gave me good performance in one 270W that I had. I have about a dozen reloading manuals. Ond goes back to1957. That old one recommends magnum primers with ball powders. I use standard primers, but in that old 270 I owned I had a couple of hangfires in very cold weather. It sounded like a hangfire in a muzzleloader when you get a pop -boom. I wish they would publish ignition temperatures especially for black powder substitutes.

Not where I'd like to be
Normally you'd pick the powder based on the cartridge and bullet combo you want to shoot, but right now I guess you take what you can get.
I'd love some Reloader 26 to go with the 180 ELDs I picked up for my new 7mm Rem mag barrel, but I'll have to make my stash of H1000 work.

Anyone use the nosler unprimed, unprepped brass ? Found some 6.5 CM I might try.

Anyone use RL15, RL17, or H380 for any 6.5 CM loads?

257 Roberts is one I’ll be trying to figure out a good load. Ideally 100 or 117 grain bullets once I find some. My 300 wsm is another I need to work on with the 178 eldx I picked up.

Does anyone have a good load worked up for a 6.5 CM using super performance? I finally found a few pounds.

760 should work just fine in the 'Roberts and probably the 'Creed as well as it's burn rate is pretty close to H4350.

I'd want something a bit slower burning for the 300WSM. 4831 H, H/SC, or IMR, Alliant R22/23/26, Ramshot Hunter, VV N165 or N560.

Anyone use Berger hunting VLD 6.5 bullets in 130 or 140gr? Are they similar to a ballistic tip or do the hold together better like a bonded bullet? Can’t find accubonds so seeing if these would be a good substitute.

iuse the 6.5 140 elite hunter , but have used and buddy uses the VLD. No berger bullets are designed to to penetrate several inches and then shed weight creating massive wound channels. they do not hold together. in fact some wont exit the animal. with that being said. between the wife and i and other various friends and family shooting my guns with bergers, i would say 30 animals have been takedn and 28/30 were dead on impact the other 2 one antelope went maybe 40 yards ( 6mm 105 gr VLD) the other an elk went maybe 60 yards ( 175gr berge elite hunter) ive needed a follow up shot on 1 occasion the rest are 1 and done.

i can honestly say you wont be disappointed in berger bullets. like i have said before VLDs can be touchy to seating depth but i run bergers in every gun i own except one and thats the supressed short barrel 308 that we dont use for longer shots.

I’m running Berger 140 Hunting VLDs in my 6.5-284. It’s one of my tightest shooting loads. They are meant to shed all their energy inside the animal. I shot my ND bull elk with a 168 Berger VLD spit from a 7mm mag. The first round hit high right below the spine and somewhat penciled through. The shock dropped him right there. He tried to stand back up presenting a neck shot. I took it and dropped him right where he first fell down. I found the neck shot bullet laying right underneath the hide on the opposite side when we caped it out.

think opposite of Barnes bullets. They like to fragment IME. They remind me of shooting things with A-maxes.
