They had to get it going with a snow machine. But man they cut a big wheel. I think a guy fishing the perimeter every 20 ft would be a good way to see which baits work best.

The size of the ice circle would be dependent on the thickness of the ice. Ice is roughly 90% of the density of water: .90 x 62.4#/cf = 56#/cf. Four cf of ice would float a 200#+ person. Ice 14" thick would make 1 sf of surface ice 1 cf of ice. That's as far as I'm going to go.
