I think I'll stick to my tip ups and dead sticks. Cabelas has them on sale for $33 and if you use card you get $20 in card points....I think. I got enough enough crap so I just thought I'd ask how they work for walleye. Seems the pike and trout guys like them.

They work well when the temps aren't too cold. I usually only use them when the bite is tough and a guy is on a "meat run".

They work great but put a slip bobber between the 1st and 2nd guide to allow for slack. The fish will be able to pull out 8-12in of line before it goes off.

Yeah that's a good idea. You should be able to leave some slack before the trigger goes off. I have those some of those little strike indicator flags so I can usually get to the rod and set the hook. Yeah the length would be at least a foot of slack I'd think.

Ahhh....when am I not on a meat run? If the rods are straight I'm out of bait.

I read where the jawjacker was illegal in MN, not sure if true, but are hook setting contraptions legal in ND?

They are legal in ND.

Having something that reels the line in for you is illegal though.

I am a hook setter, really don't want a contraption doing it for me. Seems like using a vibrator on the mrs, prefer my "meat run" doing the job

He fishes on cascade where they catch those huge perch and the first time he popped a perch eye out all his buddies thought he was crazy. till the castmaster and eye started hammering fish

Well, I miss a lot of fish jigging too lol. Yeah, I'm probably not going to buy one. Even at $33 on sale with a $20 club point bonus. I found some videos of a few guys that make some. I'd try one of those first. However you use a deadstick out side the shack it has to be nice enough to be keeping holes open. I'll use a tip up if outside holes are freezing up.

Made my own jacker for a grand total of $0 using stuff found around the house. 24" board, adjustable flag holder, eye hook and a section of wire coat hanger. Works awesome. Have taken it out a couple times and had luck each time - walleye and perch.
