I also agree with Allen. I see no downside to research that can potentially improve opportunities for outdoorsmen. Think of what the research might bring if they could find a way to reduce one species, how helpful that may be to reduce a species not wanted. Perhaps something like zebra mussels could be alleviated from this research. That is one of the prime purposes of a fish hatchery other than just hatching eggs.

The article seems to say it’s a US Fish and Wildlife project, not ND Game and Fish, no?

Correct, those are USFWS employees doing the work. It doesn't say who is funding it, but I'd guess it's probably federally funded. Perhaps with some state partners from those places that prefer trout over walleye.

I misremembered. It’s lake trout from Yellowstone Lake that cannot be released.

That said, trout people don’t even like trout unless it’s just the right trout in just the right spot.

To be fair, the introduction of lakers almost collapsed the entire food web in that lake. But you're right about a lot of the trout people.
