I gotta look in the gun-safe tonight. I have several old 22 caliber rifles, some bolts, one pump. I have no use for them whatsoever, so would let them go pretty easily.

I'll post some pictures, if anybody is interested.

The only 22 rifle I ever shoot is a Ruger 1022 with about 9 million rounds through it.

I also have a brand-new, never been shot Henry lever, in 22 cal.

Oh I've been looking at them quite a bit. Would be nice to go back in time and buy ever damn Winchester you could find!

Running joke amongst Winchester collectors (probably other brands as well):

You never overpay for a Winchester, however, sometimes you do buy early..........

I really like shooting my heavy barreled remington 541 allot as well.

Stopped @ Cabelas in Mitchell yesterday. 541T HB in the premium room was $1499! 541S in ~90% condition was $1599.

YIKES!!!

I LOVE the 580/581/582/541 series and I can manage with a 5-shot clip. I wish they fed as smoothly as anything that runs from a 10/22 or 77/22 mag though. Additionally, I'd not give anywhere near what Cabelas has on those 2. IMO/IME absolute TIP-TOP $$ for a 541S is $800 for a pristine example. 541T-HB or sporter ~$100-$150 less.

The Remington 121 is the same era as the Winchester 61 and seems to be cheaper most of the time. The ones I have seen and handled seemed well made and fairly nice.

Regarding the "common" 61's, the latter 61's had a 3/8" groove in the top of the receiver for .22 scope rings and typically command a premium.

IIRC there was a 22Mag version that brings a ton of $$ and a smooth-bore version that brings even more.
My brother has the 22mag. Back around 1960 we would drop the canoe in the Sheyenne river in spring and shoot beaver all day on week- ends. Fun times.

ok, I’m confused? I have my dads Model 61 pump but it looks nothing like the one in the links you posted. I learned to shoot with this gun so I don’t think it was altered in anyway. 5297736D-E323-423B-9E14-57FF94505455.jpg

I had a Winchester model 61 as a youth. I loved that gun. One of my best friends growing had a model 62. Later when he had added a couple of young sons. I sold mine to him so each boy had a similar rifle. If you get a chance to get a 61 I would love to look at it . I do have an extra forearm.

then at sometime, as in years ago, it was re-barreled because it says 61 on the barrel.

[ QUOTE=Zogman;317156]Look closer it is a model 62.

Thanks for the links, after reading them I am guessing it is a mixed/matched rifle between the 62A and 61. The forearm has the grooves of the 62A but am guessing at some point a 61 was put on it, it also does not meet any of the gallery gun characteristics! Thanks again!

A model 62 or 62A is also on my list of cool .22’s to buy. Cool gun!

FWIW. In the early 60's the little group I traveled with had. a Winchester 77 tube feed, a Remington 550, a JC Higgens single shot, a Winchester 61, and a Winchester 62.

at the gun show in GF last weekend there was a dealer there who was very knowledgeable about these older guns and had a pretty large display of them. I think he said he was from Wyndmere but I never caught his name. Does anyone know who this may be? Feel free to PM me if you do. I think he had some pieces I may be interested in.

Riddle me this gunman: I have a model 39 Marlin with a 19 1/2 inch barrel. All others that I have seen have a 24 inch barrel. It's either a factory freak or someone did a dandy job with a hacksaw. Nicely crowned, shorter mag tube and original dovetail front site.20210314_100203.jpg20210314_100034.jpg

Marlin introduced the 39c in 1963. I owned it before that. Octagon barrel and the model number on the tang does not have a c.

Back in the early days a few guns were cut down so they would fit in the Model A trucks. Any old gun that has been cut down could be for that reason. I had a Higgins 12 Gauge that had been cut down and a wise old neighbor who told me why.

These are the things that a person REALLY needs to research before buying collectable/rare models. I don't know Marlin's well enough to know if this is factory or an aftermarket cut-down. It wouldn't surprise me if it's factory. Lots of lever-guns came from the factory with a myriad of bbl lengths but only 1 real "model number". The issue becomes determining the real thing from an elaborate fake. No big deal if one is buying a "shooter" priced like a "shooter". Way big deal if someone is buying a very rare and desirable collector item of low production number. There's a shit-ton of money made by folks who are really good at faking/counterfeiting low-production number variants of any/all firearms.
