We've been doing alright finding eater-sized walleye this year, mainly fishing the Beulah Bay & Hazen Bay areas, but I'd love to get into some bigger fish. We've been catching 12-17" fish pulling slow death with bottom bouncers between 10-20 FOW off points and over humps. Do the bigger fish tend to hang out in the same areas at the same times, and we just haven't hooked up with them yet? Or do different size fish of the same species act differently?

Try going deeper and don't be afraid of fishing in the weeds with Temps like these. Sometimes the bigger/older/lazier ones can't resist the steady temptation of a meal in their face in the name of a slip bobber.

I'd say to look in either 3 or 30 feet. A friend that fishes tournaments says that's usually where the big ones are caught. Either really shallow or deep.

Right, one needs to trade quantity for quality as a golden rule. Go where the meat anglers are not and try different tactics. I don't know the biologic reasons walleye (and other species) separate themselves at times, but it's certainly something that the better tourney anglers have used to their benefit.

like size fish generally hang with same size fish schools. So prob not a lot of of 28-30s in a school of 15s. Maybe, but less odds. Most fish I've caught 25-30inches were with other bigger fish. Not necessarily that big but prob not with eaters. I agree also...I have caught a few big ones deep and many big ones in shallow weeds.
