It’s that time of year when I look forward to being cold while deer hunting.

Whats everyone’s go-to merino wool system? Which brand is the best bang/buck?

Bang. Buck. Deer season. Get it? Ha ha.

I like first lite base layers but the synthetic from Sitka work better for me and are warmer but some people stink real bad with them.

Cold sucks more and more as I gain in "Life Experience". Merino is way to many pennies for this cheapskate.

I’ve been a fan of first lite base layers for quite a while now. Same can’t be said for their outerwear.

side note - the first lite Ranger snap shirt is my new favorite fishing/lounging/beach shirt. Soft and stretchy

I just turn up the heat in the pickup and only roll the window down enough to get the barrel out.

If you get cold you must be doing it wrong. I would wear a light sweatshirt as I got out of the 70 degree pickup to walk to the back and cut and pull twine off the bales. Everyone knows that there are an abundance of 200 plus inch muleys on private land in the badlands. I would just scan the hillsides and pick the biggest one out and lean on the hood. Easy peasy. I could hear the sobs, whining, and obscenities from all of the hunters standing at the fence line watching the greedy and selfish landowner hoard all of the big deer. Sometimes I’d almost feel bad.

Thanks.

I do have first lite bottoms - lighter weight than I’d like but they’ve been very good and no stank.

Black Ovis or some such gets a lot of praise online. Odd that nobody here spoke of them.

the older I get the more I like snaps/buttons vs pullovers or zippers

I don’t own any of their base layers but have some other stuff from them and it is quality. My brother has their base layer and he likes them. Find them on camo fire pretty often.

I have been very happy with all my first lite purchases. Nothing better then merino...no stink, quick to dry, great in warm and cold weather.

Warmth to price ratio isn't worth it for what I have experienced so far in the couple garments I have purchased.

Early season hot weather I like it but I don’t think it’s warm compared to the synthetics. I doesn’t dry near as fast when you sweat.

I have several Black Ovis Merino items, and would recommend them to anyone. Can pick them up on Camofire at a decent price too.
