Electric is just a different form of gas. They all need and use petroleum in one form or another to get you from point A to point B

We are just so easily lead in this great US of A that the electric platform is such a feel good deal and makes the blinded follow.

I would hope to never be forced to choose, but look at the covid shot. Choices are becoming few.

In some cases they make perfect sense, in many cases they don't. I don't see an electric truck fitting my needs anytime in the near future, but I do think hybrids make more sense in the truck world. I believe Toyotas and Fords top truck engines are now hybrids for 2022. It will be interesting to see how long dodge and GM keep the big V8's, I hope to at least still have the option in about 4 years when I need a new truck.

If I lived in a big city, I could see having an electric vehicle as a daily driver for commuting to work. Pulling things, like boats and campers, would seem to be a recipe for a disaster. So some electrics have a range of 350 miles, imagine a pickup that has an advertised range of 350, but then you put a boat behind it and your range becomes what, 200 miles? Not acceptable performance for me.

Maybe you could wire your electric boat motor to your electric truck motor to get some extra distance... :D

I have a sur ron electric motorcycle supposed to get 40 to 50 miles out of a charge i get about 20, this seems to be pretty common in the electric vehical specs. so if they say 300 expect about 150

My take as a semi retired GM employee these new EV car's that are burning up in cities across the country (batteries) on the chevy bolt,even telsa batteries,this and now our weather here in the midwest,couple of bolt owner's I know,live in the city,the bolt was cheap to purchase with federal monies in tax refunds,BUT last winter in sub zero temps these cars lost 40% of there power ,cold and running the eletric heater's,hiway helpers were seen pulling a gas operated generater to give these EV owners a jump . claim on charge

now new in 2022 the all new EV gm truck so far named the "Lordstown" truck this is where it's built,powertrain like these lithium batteries come/made in china,bad deal,when buyer's fill out new EV vehicle paperwork guess who get's buyer information? just like the rice burners assembleld here in the states,most if not all buyer info ends up on japan and a large percentage of our currency goes to the mother land

I believe the Chevy is a Volt, not Bolt. Not that it matters much.

I have a nephew who just put money down on an electric F-150. But he lives in a big city - charging stations everywhere, never pulls anything, and works only a couple of miles from where he lives.

I think electric is neat. Has some qualities, etc. I certainly like my electric weed-wacker, and blower, and drills.

I like my V-8 though, in my truck, when pulling a fifth-wheel camper. And I can't even imagine pulling something heavy in the winter.

No the chevy Volt has been out for a few years now the Volt is liguid cooled and has a 9 gal gas back up fuel tank....Remember I'm your GM employee but more of a truck guy.... the chevrolet Bolt is all electric period,second year on the market,growing pains

I'm curious to check out this lords town truck to come out,spec's I've read it's an all wheel drive,electric motor located on the rear axel and also another electric motor up front,we'll see how this plays out if it ever hits the streets.

See tons of the Tesla cars down here. Some look rather sporty and they drive them like there is no tomorrow.
Don't know how long they last or anything. Payson put in a Tesla charging station 2 years ago.
I guess I am old school and want to hear my motor running!

I don't see them working here anytime soon for my needs. I also don't believe they are as "green" as they are made out to be, just the lithium alone is an environmental mess. Then add in producing electricity. When I last researched, the price of an electric charge on a Tesla was similar in price to $2.40 gas.

With all that said, I don't think it's a fad. These companies aren't all leaning this way because of political pressure. There are real, honest benefits to electric vehicles. Instant, 100% torque is one of them, which would be significant for towing. Four wheel drive and instant torque will probably better most trucks out there today. The challenge is range.....once you get up to speed, how fast will you drain your battery? The other thing that would be helpful for towing, specifically downhill, is regenerative braking. You have a built in engine brake that will help recharge your batteries when going down a steep grade. One of the biggest issues though is charging. First, how many Tesla stations are trailer friendly? Haven't seen one yet. Second, think about the capacity needed to charge a lot of tow vehicles. Think a truck stop with 300 trucks in it, LOTS of power needed. Electrical companies don't have the grid to back it up right now.

Volvo is working hard on electric semi's. They claim that through the elimination of the drivetrain, electric drivetrains are many times more efficient than traditional. Power storage is once again the issue.

Remember that first Black & Decker drill from the early 90's? Batteries lasted about 20 screws? Today we have electric ice augers, weed eaters, and chainsaws. I use a 40v battery on my circular saw and can cut sheathing for 4 hours straight on one battery. Vehicles are going to advance just the same IMO, like it or not.

One way I can see electric vehicles be more cost effective is to make the body of the vehicles into photo Electric cells, also battery technology has a long way to go as far as producing energy to battery/ dailies life ratio. Electric vehicles I agree have real world benefits but until scientists can figure out how to make batteries immune to changes in every day driving conditions from pulling a boat, to driving through rush hour traffic, driving from 80+ degree to sub 0 temperature changes the battery will be the Electric vehicles down fall.

The 2022 Tundra looks really nice. I was hoping for diesel, but a twin turbo V6 (like an EcoBoost) paired with a hybrid has some impressive stats. I only have 100,000 miles on my pickup so I'll drive it a few more years before the next pickup. A few friends have the half ton Chevy diesel and really like that.

over the course of 30 years worked my way up the ladder from detailing cars to sales to store mgmt,now north central schmuck part time in my old age.

No corporate management,but spent years as a fleet /commercial specialist.

These GM EV have REGENERTIVE charging,however today it's only engaged during stop and go driving,useless hiway driving.,but plenty of fast charging station's dotted along our freeway interstates from coast to coast,more popping up all the time.
