The evening that you and your brother and Sluggo and I fished the rocks, I think I caught three. At least one was caught in the air. I think Sluggo caught a couple, and I believe you did too?

If you plan on throwing the really big flies you will want to go with a 9 wt. The bigger rod helps in the wind too. That being said, I think a guy can do just fine with the smaller pike flies (bunnies, etc.) and then the 8 wt would be fine. The benefit of the 8 wt would be it would better sized for targeting smallies if that's your thing at all.
