What’s everyone’s go to engine oil? In the past In my Yamaha, used Yamaha oil. My Suzuki, I used Suzuki oil. But I can source neither in my home town. Any thoughts on Amsoil? I’ve never used it before.

I've used AmsOil Marine in my Yamaha F200 and 9.9. I'm not an oilologist but I assume there's more corrosion inhibitors in marine specific oils.

You can use any good oil that you would use in your car or truck

Walmart SuperTech oil just as good as any other oil, most of the other Con Artist's just put some different coloring it their oil and charge 2 or 3 times the amount

Having had a Mercury engine blow a hole in the block a few years ago, I know full and well that they take an oil sample for warranty work.

It cost well over $9k for a new short block on a 150 4S.

Run what you want after the warranty period, but until warranty is up, the extra few bucks spent on using the manufacturers oil is cheap insurance on keeping your warranty intact.

If you can't find Yamaha, or Mercury oils locally, Amazon has oil change kits that include the filter and oil. Just plan ahead a little.

I would need an hour meter to change based on hours for my Lund Fisherman running a Yamaha 115. Since I DON'T have one, I change it annually.'

There are time I know that's not often enough.

On my Toon with the 150 Merc, I also change annually, but it probably has about the the right number of hours in between changes. The biggest factor for me is I don't like the engine sitting for extended periods of time with a lot of hours on the oil. That's where you get sludge developing. At least, that's my take on things.

Annually. I fish 40-50 days/yr but rarely get more than 50-60hrs on my main, probably less than 20hrs on my kicker. My bow mount gets about 987609709897659780 hrs/summer.

My Yamaha outboards I run Mobil 1 synthetic. I read up a lot on the online forums at The Hull Truth from other boat owners across the country, a number of them commercial fishermen that put on lots more engine run time than I do.
