its fine until someone does it while working, being responsible for the safety of others is not a concern when intoxicated on any chemical.

I wouldn't want my mechanic, bus driver, dentist, or anyone charged with the care of me or my family to be mind altered. Booze weed or otherwise.

Normally a drinker has a few after a shift, or on the weekends at a party or bar. Seems fine if a doper wants to do the same to me, not cool if they toke a little in the am to take the edge off, or over the lunch hour to settle a busy day, etc. That goes for any type of "cocktail"

I know some dopers that think being high is no big deal, just wouldn't want that guy replacing my heart valve.

these concerns are valid - I have personally witnessed this attitude (at sausage shops, etc.)

seriously though... pot enthusiasts see nothing wrong with a weed smoker being ripped at work - but being drunk is frowned upon - strange double standard attitude if you ask me

DAvy, perhaps you missed that portion of my statement?

Davy please show where I have posted anything contradicting MJ medical values.

Apparently you think the statistical facts that have shown up after Colorado legalized recreational pot is my "opinion", but you would be wrong. So if you wish to minimilize others comments, having a "clue" yourself before you start may be beneficial

That was my fault GST , I should have been more clear when I wrote my second sentence. I didn't read your post , I took a quick glance at it and I read the red writing after 701 fishslayer responded. Sorry bout that, I'll read it tonight if I get time.

Incrementalism bruce

Ah the doubting Thomas.

"that'll never happen, you are just fear mongering. All they want is the right to marry someone they love"

So espringers, what do you think about a fella walkin out of the pisser in the locker room where your daughter is getting dressed?

Hey as a lawyer can you tell us if a fella can legally walk into a womans bathroom in California now and whip his pecker out to take a piss?

http://abcnews.go.com/US/aclu-sues-...na-transgender-bathroom-law/story?id=37976188

http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/13/us/california-transgender-school-law/index.html

Ya, that incrementalism thing is just a bunch of bullshit ain;t it espringers.

Not just my daughters, but my wife doesn't need to be sharing a restroom with some "confused" fella rubbing his wiener on the car as he runs by...haha
Especially if that LGBTLMNOP is stoned, cause they run so much slower.

Join the real world for a bit here would you. Pot is less dangerous then alcohol and the ban on it is failing for the exact same reasons the one on alcohol did. If you create a vacuum in a market it will be filled by organized crime. So heroin has the same level of danger to the user that pot does....yeah didn't think so. Compare apples to apples not apples to hand grenades!

Okay so we legalize pot. the people that want heroin, crack, meth., coke, bath salts ext... legalized will say why not us?

Your response is well pot doesn;t kill people. You don;t get addicted to pot. no body ever died from pot ect.... then they take a page right out of the pot legalizers play book, well alcohol is legal and that kills and is addictive ect..........

My whole point here is if you advocate for legalizing recreational pot, you can;t ignore or dismiss what will inevitably follow.

Don;t want to make the heroin jump just yet, okay lets use amphetamines. It is just a little speed, all I need is a little edge when I am working.

How about cocaine? Some people can recreationally use coke for years and not become the Al Pacino of the party.

How about Extasy? Hell you take viagra to keep your pecker hard, what is a little sumthin to make the experience better?

The simple fact is if one is honest you know legalization of all drugs is coming behind legalizing recreational pot. If you are okay with that fine admit it, if you want to draw YOUR line on what is legal, is it not a bit hard to condemn others for their line?

- - - Updated - - -

1. Indeed prescription drug abuse will be much different with this one drug. Doctors that are willing to write bullshit scripts for oxy for their patients will suddenly draw the line at MJ.

2. Don;t think I claimed pot is "addictive".

3. Anyone that thinks pot use abuse issues will not occur is a blind idiot (I know you deny Colorados actual findings, but then a few chronic pot smokers that I do know have become rather delusional also) :)

4. http://www.ctpost.com/local/article/Yale-study-Marijuana-may-really-be-gateway-drug-3805532.php

5. Well if you wish I can keep on but "debunking" someones comments by claiming they are "opinions" with nothing more than your "opinion".............fail.

It's not going to follow because you fail to notice it's already here! It's not like there is suddenly going to be three times as many people doing pot because the vast majority of people who would do it are doing it! As for other drugs you and I will never live to see the day that crack and meth are legal and to compare the two puts you right up there with who ever made it schedule 1 to begin with. And let's be clear here is have smoked it once in my life and that was back in 96 so I'm not addvocateing for myself here.

The gateway drug thing is flipping stupid. The true gateway drug will be in most of our hands just as soon as happy hour hits and we even drink some alcohol too.;:;boozer

I don't get it. Why would we as a society want to legalize a dangerous substance like weed. It's addictive, it's bad for your mental health, it's terrible for your physical health, and it can wreck peoples lives. It's bad enough that we have so many problems that we are battling with cigarettes, alcohol and drunk driving. Do we really want to endorse the loss of millions more productive people via pot?

A drug that is more accessible to adults also becomes more accessible to children, both while they are children and when they grow into adults.

So drugs are legal?

Why not answer the speed or ex or coke question?

50 years ago the support for legalizing pot would have been likely less than 20% even with the 60's generation. 50 years ago I bet your parents would have said "we are never going to see the day pot is legal".

So 50 years from now what will be the drug pushing to be legalized?

20 years? 10?

People want to dismiss the "incrementalization" argument to win their fight but history proves it is true.

Where has anyone said alcohol or tobacco is not a "gateway" drug for some people?

- - - Updated - - -

Hell after we end up with a bunch of people getting stoned working, we will have to legalize speed or coke to even out the loss of productivity...............:;:chillpill dude.

Would have to look in on the X on its effects but like I said stick with the real world stop wandering off on what might be the fourth move down the line. Good god if you live your life dissecting every little detail that might possibly happen sometime in the distant future determine what you do now I'm surprised you can even leave your house. Did making alcohol legal lead to opium being made legal? By your reasoning it should have by the 50's!

Interesting read.. I for one would vote yes to legalize it. I personally know professionals (lawyers, Dr.s, Nurses, chiropractors, etc.) that smoke or consume edibles maybe not on a daily basis but at the minimum on weekly basis - I don't treat them any different as they're still professionals.

Ive pondered on the reality of MJ becoming legal and how it will effect our youth, but my thinking is that I would much rather have my kid smoking pot and getting behind the wheel vs. consuming copious amounts of alcohol and getting behind the wheel...

If they legalized weed I would think companies become more loose with drug testing or have to be. Or is there a test that says how recently someone got HIIIIIGH? Come to think about it how does this work in states that have already legalized weed?

There are some 50000 products that cannabis has been made of or can be made of.
Hemp Crete look it up
United States is the biggest importer of industrial Hemp in the world. As much as a half a billion dollars a year.
Marijuana pills need to pass through the kidneys before it is absorbs into the blood, kidneys change the chemical compounds which means that the pill is lacking many other crucial chemicals that the plant has entirely, either in inhale the vapors or consume the whole plant into baked goods. Yes some people can become losers if they want to sit at home and just get high just like alcoholics, or gold paint huffers. During the early 70s, there were eleven states that decrimilized weed in small amounts in your possession and The last state to outlaw Marijuana outright was Alaska. Americans are getting tired of the government telling them what they can or cannot have. Big paper, big oil, big cotton, big chemical companies don't want to compete with a plant that is " true meaning of a renewable resource." Did you beer drinkers know that the Hop is in the cannabis family.

What really bad about MJ is it stays in your system as much as three times as long. Alcohol, pain killers, meth, coke, nicotine and caffeine are all water soluble while MJ is fat soluble. So until testing can be changed MJ will be a 0 tolerance drug, but you can go get drunk, huff gold paint,.or shoot up heroine and wait 24 hrs and you are go to go for a test.

Lunker, Read up. Unless I posted the wrong links , some of them are roadside tests that determine if you have smoked within the last 2 - 5 hours is what I read awhile back. This technology improves on a daily basis , There are many companies in this race.

hopefully these test will become standard operating tools for dealing with imperative smokers. Not the ones who go home after a hard days work and smoke a little kush just to unwind from the day. That way when they get up in the morning for work, they don't have to worry about getting caught failing a test 8 or more hours after they got done.

At one time opium was legal.

So you are saying we should not be concerned about what kind of society we leave our children or grand children?

Sorry, I disagree.

7 Harmful Side Effects Pot Legalization Has Caused in Colorado

Commentary By

n @cullystimson
Charles "Cully" D. Stimson is a leading expert in criminal law, military law, military commissions and detention policy at The Heritage Foundation's Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. Read his research.

There is more bad news out of Colorado regarding the negative impact of marijuana legalization.
As I reported a few weeks ago, some professors published a peer-reviewed article on the negative social costs to outright legalization. I noted that although overall traffic fatalities in Colorado have gone down since 2007, they went up by 100 percent for operators testing positive for marijuana—from 39 in 2007 to 78 in 2012. (Colorado legalized marijuana for medical usage in 2009, before legalizing marijuana for other uses in 2012.) Furthermore, in 2007, those pot-positive drivers represented only 7 percent of total fatalities in Colorado, but in 2012 they represented 16 percent of total Colorado fatalities.
Now, there is even more proof from Colorado that legalizing pot, as I have argued before, is terrible public policy.
This new report paints an even bleaker picture of what is happening in Colorado since it legalized the possession, sale, and consumption of marijuana.
According to the new report by the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area entitled “The Legalization of Marijuana in Colorado: The Impact,” the impact of legalized marijuana in Colorado has resulted in:
1. The majority of DUI drug arrests involve marijuana and 25 to 40 percent were marijuana alone.
2. In 2012, 10.47 percent of Colorado youth ages 12 to 17 were considered current marijuana users compared to 7.55 percent nationally. Colorado ranked fourth in the nation, and was 39 percent higher than the national average.
3. Drug-related student suspensions/expulsions increased 32 percent from school years 2008-09 through 2012-13, the vast majority were for marijuana violations.
4. In 2012, 26.81 percent of college age students were considered current marijuana users compared to 18.89 percent nationally, which ranks Colorado third in the nation and 42 percent above the national average.
5. In 2013, 48.4 percent of Denver adult arrestees tested positive for marijuana, which is a 16 percent increase from 2008.
6. From 2011 through 2013 there was a 57 percent increase in marijuana-related emergency room visits.
7. Hospitalizations related to marijuana has increased 82 percent since 2008.

The report includes other data about the negative effect of legalizing marijuana in Colorado, including marijuana-related exposure to children, treatment, the flood of marijuana in and out of Colorado, the dangers of pot extraction labs and other disturbing factual trends.
Don’t expect this data to impact the push to legalize pot in Colorado, or elsewhere for that matter. Big pot is big business, and the push to legalize is really all about profit, despite inconvenient facts.
Drug policy should be based on hard science and reliable data. And the data coming out of Colorado points to one and only one conclusion: the legalization of marijuana in the state is terrible public policy.
The simple truth is we are seeing the results of legalizing recreation pot.

This is not my "opinion" nor conjecture, it is what has occurred in a state where it has been legalized where they have kept track.

Make what arguments you wish, but the point I am making is be honest enough to accept the reality of what is going to happen. It will NOT be all roses and twinkies. There will be costs just as there are with it being illegal. Own them and the responsibility that goes with advocating to legalize it.

Just decriminalize it, we have no room in our system and facilities for the people that are low profile, minding their own business and relaxing around their house, campfire, what nots. I'd rather see more room to keep these effin child molestors, human trafficking pos's locked up more than the 90 day to a year bullshit
