If you get a lot can you freeze them or dry them, or do you have to can them somehow?

I'm not a mushroom fan but I dehydrate all mine and store in the freezer and use throughout the year in recipes and love it, a creamy morel mushroom sauce over anything is phenomenal

Yeah drying is the best IMO. Have to be careful with a dehydrator that it doesn't get too hot and cook them. I usually lay them on a screen and have a fan blowing on them for a couple days. Then I'll turn my oven on lowest temp and put the dried morels in there with the door open for about 20-30min. Then into a mason jar. They'll last a year for sure.

I just put mine in the dehydrator for a day. I let them sit on the racks for an additional 6 hours to make sure there is no heat left to them. Then they go in mason jars and seal them up with the food saver.

What's the tick to morel ratio? Would love to go looking for some but man I just hate those damn little ticks.

Depends if you're in an area with 'shrooms or not. Could be very high if not. Bad year for ticks....or is it a good year for ticks, bad for us?

It's really impossible to not have ticks along with Morel hunting in my experience. Permethrin is a life saver. Coat boots, socks, pants, shirt and gear. I've been in the woods many hours this spring and have had 1 attached tick.

They are still out there around LM. Got some super fresh ones hiding in the undergrowth around a dying Elm. Gonna try it tomorrow again...a couple good trees is all it takes!20170529_141917.jpg

It's funny with all the time and gas money I have spent looking for these little bastards it would be cheaper for me to just buy a bunch online. I still have dreams of mother loads which keeps me going! Haha. I've seen pics of people literally finding like 100 on a single tree....some day

Found all mine on 4-5 trees, very dry around Bismarck and all I can figure is these areas held the snow longer in the undergrowth, nothing has popped since that first warm spell that I've seen

fried a few and have over a gallon bag full of dehydrated I guess so I can't complain but some moisture would have been nice

That's a nice amount to have stocked up! I have a quart mason jar of dried currently and that' is NOT enough.

Anyone ever try to get them to grow at home? I made a spore slurry last year and spread it around my back yard. I know it can take a few years but I'm hoping 1 or 2 pop just to know if it works.

So how'd this ever work out?

Anyone been out yet this year?

It's gotta be soon, I haven't been out yet though. Are the lilacs blooming yet? Dandelions up? Those are good indicators normally
