Only after winter temperatures hit -20 for a few days to kill off all the sick ones. Been thirty some years since I have had cotton tail. Mut be global warming. LB

The rule for squirrel in the Hills was after the second frost. Rabbit season didn't come in until it was "winter". A true rabbit hunt with dogs is a hoot. Extra attention to safety is a must. Shot/dressed a good many but never have eaten one. Mom wasn't keen on killing/cooking them. The dogs we hunted over seemed to know the difference between grouse and rabbit. Probably a "sense" of habitat. This one Brit mix loved to point rabbits but never had an issue in the beech woods. This "versatility" likely couldn't happen in ND.
