Didnt get a picture of him the field. This Year I had to switch over to a crossbow. I made a deal with myself that the first buck that comes into range that is bigger then a spike I would take just to gain some experience. This guy gave me a good shot at about 25 yards. I made a good shot, connecting with a little of each lung and putting it through the top of the heart. He ran less then 50 yards. For sure not the biggest deer I have taken, but man what a confident boaster, and some good eating for the freezer.
Those crossbows have some amazing power. I hit 3 ribs going in, 2 going out, plus I put the bolt right through the shoulder socket. There was still enough energy to bury the bolt 3/4 of the way into the ground. It was buried so deep that I couldnt see the illuminated knock until I was about 3 feet from it, mainly due to the taller grass and angle.
