I've got "Wild Kingdom" of ducks happening on my drive home each night right now....woodys, mallards, etc. What are you seeing? Anything out of the ordinary? Really predictable and should be able to get some really cool pics if I go prepared one evening....

All the coolies and ditches with water in my neck of the woods all have a pair of mallards in them. During the summer I never see them

A couple springs ago I had a mallard hen make a nest and lay eggs in some shrubs just in front of my house. They abandoned it at some point but it explained why there was drake strutting around my yard for a few days. I think that was the same spring I watched a few mallard drakes land on my neighbors garage roof then proceed to 'waddle' up their house roof. Never seen that before!

Hen mallard sat down on the other side of the glass door at my kid's school. I made a scene and got the little kids all excited and spilling into the hallway to see. It was awesome :)

We saw 4 pair of hooded mergansers in a city pond last week. Teals... oh I love seeing the springtime teals. Prettiest duck around.

Nothing out of the ordinary at this point. Was at the folks place last night and they had around a dozen geese 20 or mallards as well as a few hooded mergansers. There wereb blue and green wing teal and a handful of gadwalls and widgon. The lake also has a few big birds that come in and are normally allot of fun to watch. Such as the great blue harons that hang around the yard stabing their fish.

But without a doubt the coolest one is the ospreys sice they lock up tight at 50 feet and do their impressive high speed straight into the lake. It quite fun too watch him feed front the deck as I sip on a whisky coke. Here he is last year taking what looks to be an unhappy bluegill out for a little joyride.

That said if you are big into wildlife photography and would like to try and get some good shots of them just send you a text bach. Last year it was the norm to see him dive 20 to 30 timed over a couple hours. He also got in a midair tug of war with a big bald eagle and lost

Few common goldeneye and hooded mergansers. Typically see some scoters but have yet to this year.

In front.
Hmmm.nothing of the sort in my hood this year. However, I do have this strange looking rock by my curbing. It's almost like it has eyes that are following me when I circle around it.image.jpg

Was out in my yard a couple evenings ago and heard a wood duck call. Sure enough, looked up in the big elm tree in my yard and had a pair of them sitting there. I live about half a mile SE of the capitol building in Bismarck, can't think of any real water near me so that was different.

I watched 4 geese land on the roof of the hotel attached to the mall in Minot a couple weeks ago. Was a first for me to see rooftop waterfowl.

Have seen geese & ducks land on rooftops a few times in the Twin Cities. Saw a pair of geese land in a tree along the Missouri a couple times a few years ago.

I have woodies, hooded mergansers, Canada geese, mallards, and a teal or two hanging around my pond. Fun to watch!

Also have the neighbor's tame titty sprinkling ducks and geese that come over every now and then to visit. Them I might shoot if they keep harassing the native ducks.

Drove to Rugby from Fargo on Tuesday. The Devil's Lake basin had just about every duck that ever passes through here. Saw a gorgeous drake ring neck duck right off of Hwy 2 as well as some Canvasbacks.

Have seen geese in a tree and on rooftop the last 2 years of this house in south Bismarck near the river. The goose in the tree is in both pics but hard to see, the pic is taken from the road so not very close, its sitting at the top on the main trunk, the tree sits next to the house, not sure why these geese land on the roof and in the tree.

Was headed for Dry Lake last spring about the time roosters are staking out their territory and a rooster and green head were having it out in the ditch. The drake was getting his ass handed to him, I guess without a pecker or some spikes it wasn't much of affair fight.:;:muahaha

I watched a rooster fly right into a power line last year, hit it so hard he fell dead, and was then part of my dogs retrieve and eventually part of my limit. Hope the game wardens are okay with me collecting a bird I didn't shoot myself

does a bird hitting a power line count as party hunting
