While I get how sticker shock gets a guy with something where prices go up and down so fast, the fact is we have seen inflation with everything over the years.

A single dollar in 1980 (year I started legally driving) is now worth about $3.38 at the pump today. Gasoline prices averaged $1.19 in 1980 and is currently $3.26. If inflation were equally applied to gasoline, it would now be $4.03 a gallon.

https://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/1980?amount=1.19

Yeah, yeah, I know...we all need energy to live, but I also need pretty much everything else I buy as well or I wouldn't buy it. Have you seen the price of a gallon of water, or milk?

That web site shows inflation in 2021 was 4.7%. That seems off.

2021$3.914.70%

Yeah, a lot of sources have mentioned over 7% for the past year, in this example it would make the case of energy still being somewhat of a bargain compared to other goods.

Actually, that site lists 7% as the inflation for 2022. So it must, for some reason, just be delayed in how it reports it.

Bring back the sixties $0.31/gallon. Adjusted for inflation today would be about $3.05/gallon. Production/refining costs have been going down for a long time. Remember these same gas prices in the mid/late 90's. I made a lot less money then. Buck up and quit being such a bunch of snowflakes.

Until we can get our nuts out of the vice that OPEC has us in, we're going to be paying these prices regardless of politics. Keystone XL doesn't change things much. We need investment in shale oil exploration, but given the wild price fluctuations few want to go there anymore. We've got to face the music that we're just not energy dependent....and electric vehicles aren't going to save us. I think we'll be lucky to be in the high $2 range at any time in the near future. I've been paying over $3.30 for months now in SD.

I miss the bathroom condom machines. The colorful packets were a treat and it was always fun to slip one in Dad's wallet.

There was a full service Sinclair in Minot that used to be over by the ground round. That guy was the friendliest person in all of Minot.

Yeah let's not be happy about what we were paying about a year ago. I suppose you are for higher taxes as well? Dumbass!

Keystone xl would have helped a lot. We mainly are importing heavy oil to the US right now because we produce most of the light oil domestically that we consume. Light oil production is down about 1 million Bblpd. Keystone would have allowed us to use more Canadian crude instead of importing it from OPEC. The Biden administration is a complete disaster when it comes to energy independence!

Snow:

In mid 70 i was paying 15 cents/gal for gas at farmer's tank. I assume no use of highway tax. db

And sky lab was falling out of the sky.

Wife drives 120 miles per work day. Our gas expence went from 210 per month to damed near 400 so far. That hurts. Fargo was at 3.28 yesterday. Just glad the Subaru gets 30 MPG. LB
