Wondering who has one in any of their trucks. I have a '18 with the 5.3 and thinking of trading to one with the 6.2. Has anyone used both and thought the extra horses were worth it? Good or bad things on it?

I have the 5.3 in a 2013 tahoe and the 6.2 in a 2019 yukon. The 6.2 is leaps and bounds ahead of the 5.3 as far as power. Neither vehicle ever tows anything heavier than a boat, but even just driving it's evident. They also have vastly different transmissions in my case, so that could be deceiving? Idk.

I have not really had problems with either. 78k on the 6.2 and have replaced some oil cooler hoses and the oil pan gasket. The 5.3 has 190k on it and have replaced a water pump and rear main seal. Both great engines and both drive down the road fine, the 6.2 just does it easier it seems. Fuel mileage is actually better in the 6.2 as well. roughly 15-16 for the 5.3 and probably around 17-18 in the 6.2.

Just my experience.

-Edit- you should note, that the 5.3 vortec in the 2013 models would be different than the 5.3 ecotec in the 2018 models I believe. I am not sure if there's a big performance difference.

I have a friend who went from a 6.2 to the 5.3 about a year ago. He didn't make it 3 full months before he went back to the dealer for the 6.2. Better power band and better fuel efficiency, city and highway.

Big difference between the 2011 and 2020 5.3’s I have had. Transmission is a huge part of it. I much prefer the 2020. My dad has a new 6.2 and it far out pulls my 5.3. But, I am getting nearly 22 mpg average unloaded and 13-14 pulling my boat. He gets 17-18 at best and around 14 pulling. Just does it easier.

6.2 if your pulling heavier stuff like a big fiberglass boat regularly. 5.3 does fine for pretty much everything as well just wont pull quite as good. The newer 8-10 speed transmissions make gas mileage negligible but I believe the 6.2 does recommend premium fuel.

Presently I am driving my fourth 5.3 without any complaints. Put 6400 miles on last winter's trip. AZ for 2 months. The average mpg was 19.7 for the total trip. Always enough speed and power, up hills and passing. Pulling the boat about 15.5. Have got as high as 22 at interstate speeds.
What percentage of your total use is pulling anything?

Very limited production 6.2 lit, also the 6.6 on HD trucks.

Iffin you get lucky to find a 1500 crew with 6.2lit ,best to have the z82 trailering package, upgraded rear gears to 3.73 from 3.42 which is standard gears and most likely what your 18 5.3 has.

Trailer package includes factory electric trIler brake controler, oil cooler and external transmission cooler.

I retired from GM after 30 yrs last September, Chevrolet fleet division

Glad i left, seems the feds have GM and dodge by the short hairs since 2007 bailout, dictating production and reducing big block v8's focusing on ev,pressure on dodge as well, hemi's? Might go as well last report i read.

Ford is or was prospering until the lastrst rapture rainbow commercial, ugh, wtf?

Maybe stick with the 5.3,better slection out there, more torp and hp than your 2018.

Further i forgot Gm downsized their standard 1500 engine to the 2.7 4 banger,gutless....

4 1500 engines,2.7,5.3,6.2 and the 3lit duramax, great engine and the lt duty Allison transmission

You'll be fine on your trade unless its beat up.

Suggest you arm yourself, research kelly blue book, average condition unless trade needs mechanical work, dash lights on,tiresbrakes, but still used vehicle market us hot, very few good trades nation wide, detail your trade, appearance is everything.

Send me a pm with the hurt factor if you would be so kind.... I have a 2018 with the 5.3 and 90,000. I just went the other way. New tires, spark plugs, tranny service plus incidentals to the tune of 2K. Going to run it for a few more miles and years.

Just traded my 2018 with a 5.3 and 8 speed transmission for a 2023 with the 6.2 and the 10 speed transmission, love the motor but the star of the show is the 10 speed tranny. Getting about 15 mpg in town and close to 20 on the road.
