Just curious about why it seems like there is very little discussion here about Lake Tschida? Seems like it should be a tremendous fishing lake with it's size and lots of different structure. Game and Fish stocks over 300,000 walleye fingerlings annually but I almost never hear of anyone fishing there or catching much. Is it the Dead Sea or worth trying?

I always hear good ice reports from there after the season is over.

I think the biggest issue with Tschida (otherwise known as Heart Butte Reservoir) is it's a very popular recreation site. Jet skis, pontoons, wakeboarders, tubers, skiers, etc. That lake can be a mess during the summer.

Early spring, late fall, and early ice are all I have ever really tried to fish the place, once the water warms up it gets to crowded for me so I don't even try fishing other than of the dock. I have done good the last few years out there and really only fish 3-4 spots caught some big crappie and white bass too along with walleyes and pike. Most walleyes last two years have been 12-17" with the occasional over 20 something.

Crappie are the one I hear the most of out there. Over all at least for the guys in know in bismarck is if they are going to drive 70 miles to a lake that there are far better options that are closer.

I love that lake! I fish bass tournaments on it at least once each summer and always do pretty well. One of us will always luck into a big crappie using bass gear so that would make me think that there is a great population of them in there. Plus, I've never been there an NOT caught a 4+ pound walleye while bass fishing. So I would think there is a good population of eyes in there too.
