crawlers are easy to catch, theres tons of them at the capitol grounds after a good rain. Security might come ask you what you are up to if you are walking around at 2am with a flashlight, but they have never given me a hard time bout catching worms.

I used to catch them in Custer Park Bismarck…the last two times I was hassled by the cops. A rookie was going to arrest me for “possessing burglar tools”… a flashlite and an ice cream pail! Luckily his partner walked up and educated him….but they did tell me I can’t steal nightcrawlers from a public park…geesh!!

Are you serious ? You should of informed them of the public wildlife doctrine and that worms are not property of the city lol but most likely not worth it.

Today I purchased a carton of 18 Canadian night crawlers at Fleet Farm in Bismarck for $3.50. Seems like a great deal after having paid 5 or 6 bucks at bait dealers. Guaranteed to catch fish or die trying! LOL
The fish prefer the Canadian crawlers because of their smokey flavor.

you could also tell them they are a nuisance species that actually harm the park, leaving bumps all over that need to be leveled eventually and explain how you are saving the city money by thinning the herd!

Speaking of crawlers, anyone use the european crawlers and have luck with them? I was trying to keep some in a worm farm about a decade ago and they escaped and I still find them in my back yard every summer, evidently they will survive here, not sure if they are thriving, but they definitely survive.

The rub here is that it's a "park".

30 Years ago I watched the manager of Lewis and Clark State Park "gently" chew out a couple of kids for picking wildflowers. Parks are not WMAs.

So yeah, technically the worms, while non-native, are likely protected so long as they stay in the park.

This is a pretty common theme across parks, regardless of who manages them. A number of years ago, I knew a gal who claimed to sneak into parks over in MN to pick fungi for her dinner plate. She would go all kinds of ninja in order to do it without getting caught.

We were picking wild plumbs at Fort Stevenson one time and a guy on a mower stopped and told us that if the ranger sees us picking them, we would get a ticket.

Same with rocks up at state park on shore of Sakakawea. Everything is property of feds or state, wish I could be that guy wearing badge to inforce these rules I would be king.

I can understand artifact and fossil hunting not being allowed. Plums…eh i guess if one personal always took all of them. Worms? Wtf. Leave kids alone and go bust a meth head.
