Sakakwea in October?

Hello,

Me and my brothers usually take a trip up to Tobin every october. This year we have kicked around the idea of sticking closer to home and fishing the upper reaches (White Earth, Little Beaver Bay areas) of Sakakwea instead. I understand that the change at a 10+lber isnt nearly as high on sakakwea but theres still a chance i would imagine. I have no experience fishing that section this late in the year but am curious what others have found best for presentation (thinking jigginraps and cranks?) and depths to target that time of year? or any other information that may be of interest. feel free to pm me. also if anyone needs info on tobin hit me up and ill do what i can. That part of the lake is really good in October fish can be scattered so cranks are a good start jigging raps work great also and if you can find them creek chubs work really well

Agree with cooter. That part of the lake can be awesome in Oct. I actually saved vacation this year specifically to fish Sak in Oct. There should be some great fishing this year, especially after the turnover. Cranks and raps both work great. In my past experience, it seems like if you can't catch them on one, the other will work. As Cooter mentioned, creek chubs will work, I just personally haven't used them, just know people that have.

In the past, I have found them mostly in deeper water. 30+ feet, but you can find fish shallower too.

Minnows and Creek Chubs work well.
Subtle jigs, or even plain hooks have been good for us late in the year.
