This one snuck up on me , Is this the first year walleye are fair game with bow, spear and underwater spearfishing ? This looks like a sport I could get into.

Northern pike and nongame fish are the only legal species for darkhouse spear and bow (archery) fishing statewide. Daily and possession limits are the same as listed on page 10 except for:

  • Northern pike can not be taken on the Red River with bow equipment.
  • For Stump Lake and the Devils Lake complex south of U.S. Highway 2 and the Missouri River System (including lakes Sakakawea and Oahe and the Missouri River) up to the first tributary bridge, walleye are also legal.

I was thinking more darkhouse bow hunting and spearing in the winter and snorkel rubber power spear in the summer . I think it was Bobcat that told about snorkel fishing with rubber powered weapon. Speaking of Bobcat, does anyone ever hear from him he was spending summers up here last I ever saw him post on here.

Does anyone actually spear/bowfish the red? The visibility is terrible I doubt Many pike would be taken even if it was legal.

I'd pick somewhere better for visibility. We've bow fished for carp when they're spawning but it was a lot of "guess and shoot" at where their bodies were because we couldn't see them 4" under the water.
