I am an older than average shooter. Presently shooting a Benelli 20ga. So I am thinking of getting an new/used OU. Our team is not in a league. A fun group but still serious about shooting good.
What is your SC shotgun?

Semi-Auto 20Ga Beretta 30” 391 Sporting or Teknys. Purely an answer to the question @ the end of your original post.

I shoot a Benelli M2. While this is a great shotgun, it has one glaring problem...it shoots where I point it.

On our team of 6, there's an older BPS, a couple of older Benelli semi-autos (not sure of the models), a Benelli SBE, my M2, and my son's semi-auto Beretta.

Beretta auto of your choice. My go to is an old 390 that will last my lifetime. I have a sweet O/U that I dhoot occasionally but the smooth shooting of the autos won me over.

Depends on your budget. If you don't really have one, a Beretta 694 ACS (All Competitions Shotgun) would be a nice choice, especially if you would want to shoot trap are any of the other disciplines but it would set you back about $6500 new. Could probably find one cheaper used but won't be cheap. If you don't want to got that expensive, then a Browning 725 Sporting, Beretta Silver Pigeon, Winchester 101, even CZ makes some decent over/unders and any of these would do the trick. Get one with choke tubes. The chokes you choose could be very dependent on the course you are shooting.

FYI, the 725 has been replaced with the 825. Doesn't look like anything really change. Lab had a good point, choke selection varies depending on the course. I shot a semi auto for quite a few years before switching to an o/u. Nice advantage of the o/u is running two different chokes to match the presentation of each station. A nice feature with the browning is they mark the barrel selector with an "o" and "u". Other brands use other methods for labeling the barrel which seems to confuse people. I have guys on my team with other brands and they get confused which is which. Also, on a browning, when you open the action the safety does not reset like on a lot of other brands. Some people may like when the safety resets, I hate it. Go handle as many different shotguns as possible and put more value in how it fits you than the brand.

This ^^^^^ the importance of fitting the gun and shooter cannot be overstated! I've watched a number of shooters, including myself, my son, and a fellow team member up their scores significantly by changing guns.

Yeah, I'm a old, snooty retard. IMO SC has long since devolved into a "skeet/trap" game. It was originally intended for blah blah blah. IMO, it should be an Olympic sport shot with SXS's and double triggers.

They also make (yuck) OU's. Last year the price/value seemed decent for the product:

I've looked into these guys and if you want a true fitted to you gun this is the way I would probably go. Not a bad price if a guy factors everything in.
Lately I feel like I should have a 20ga SxS with double triggers, the new Weatherby Orion feels like a nice gun in the store, triggers feel fine, seems to mount nice for me, I don't mind the weight and the price isn't horrible either.

My dream SXS would be a British or Italian true sidelock 16/20 on a 20 chassis. If I could afford this I'd also be able to get a second wooden case with an additional 4 bbls of various lengths.

I'd be happy with the Merkel boxlock even as I pined for a 7+ pin sidelock; deep in my soul...

I'd also enjoy taking Marisa Tomei and Dana Delany out for steak, cheesecake and a lot of wine.

What is your SC shotgun?
Moving on up Zog? a good thunder stick plenty to choose from breach o/u used browning sporting special 30" barrel,3"chamber makes for a good backup field shotgun as well, poi is 60/40 right outof the box browning updated version is the 725 model,if leaning new consider 32" barrels ,I would shy away from used beretta' like the 682,onyx...golds,trigger issues everyone I came across at the range... cz is popular as reasonable price new,but cross your fingers for imported parts from turkey are not needed.

I'm sure others will chime in just my .02,oh BTW if your felt recoil sensitive breach shotguns need recoil reducers if recoil is a issue, otherwise a gas operated cycling semi auto is your Huckleberry.

Summer is half over better hurry.

Not sure of your involvement in the sport or your experience but the only thing you said that might be true is the specialized firearms. Repetitive shots as in you might shoot multiple pairs at a station buts that's it.
