I was loading up some 300 Blackout ammo today. I started with Hornady 190 gr SubX bullets and IMR 4227 at 10.1 gr and CCI small rifle BR-4 primers. I was shooting it more for function and it cycled great dropping the empty cases in a nice little area. I'm shooting a AR-15 with 10.5 inch barrel.

Anyone else have a load they found that is sub sonic? The SubX bullets cost 69.00 a 100. Would really like to find a cheaper bullet and keep the speed at 950 to 960 fps.

I loaded some 200 grain bullets from capital cartridge. If I remember right it was 500 bullets for about $100 delivered I could get them to cycle the bolt but it would not pick up the next round. I was using h110 as it's the only powder I had on hand at the time. Didn't chrono them as they wouldn't cycle correctly.

I'm running a 7.5 inch barrel with a banish 30 in 9 inch configuration with adjustable gas block on its most open setting. Have a set of light weight buffers and they still wouldn't cycle. If anyone has any pointers they'd be appreciated.

How many gr of H110 you running. I'm running standard gas block with carbine buffer sp and buffer. I have never had a 300 Blackout short cycle or fail to pick up a rd. Where are your empty shell casing ending up? I want them at 4 or 5 o'clock and 6 ft away. Then when I know the rifle is cycling good.

MidSouth has 208 A-max in stock for $53/100. I know Hornady loads them sub-sonic for the 300BO. Not sure if they'd meet your needs for terminal performance or not and I don't have the foggiest clue where to start w/powder or powder charge.

220 Sierra Matchking
Lake City
CCI 400
H4198
10.8
1030 fps
This was out of a 16" barrel, haven't chrono'd out of my 8.5" barrel yet. The 220 Matchking isn't cheap though and performance on game sucks at subsonic from what i've found. Tumbles through the flesh which does some damage is all.

Not where I'd like to be
220 GR Sierra Round Nose
11.4 gr AA 1680
CCI 400
1x Federal Brass
~1050 FPS from 16" barrel.

A while back I bought some Berrys 220's for plinking, but haven't tried them yet. Pretty cheap though.

I'll have to check one of these days. I'm in the middle if springs work as an agronomy center so it's gonna be a few weeks before I get a chance to sit down at the reloading bench again

With "standard" length bbls: Would these loads still require hearing protection without suppression?

After a life of drums/headphones/shooting; I now wear protection with a .22LR rifle because I constantly hear this; vvvv mostly in the left ear after my last buck kill in '09:

Sometimes it's so "loud" I can't concentrate on normal volume levels without "lip reading" or raising the TV volume. I have always HATED a loud TV unless watching a concert. It's not peaceful after a while:

FWIW: I discovered this too late in life: If you're in a garage band (especially the drummer) everything is heard better with ear plugs. Music in real/proper headphones is heard better with earplugs. If you don't constantly hear the "ziiiiiiiing"; plug in your "off" hear when hunting. The Doppler Effect will give "protection".

If you're at a concert; close the "earflap" to understand what's shouted in your ear.

Now I'm going to get YT suggestions telling me tinnitus eats brain cells. This sucks.

That is all.

This load is very quiet, no hearing protection needed. And its in a 10.5 inch barrel. In a bolt action it would really be quiet.

thread won't comeback to main page?....
What, you don't get a response so you post 5 times. I have to think you have some sort of mental illness. You just post random dumb stuff.

And to answer your question, yes you need hearing protection without a suppressor.

I picked up some Berry's 220 gr bullets and loaded up some with CFEBlk with 12.4 gr and CCI BR-4. Using a decibels app with out suppressor on a 10 5 inch barrel it was 167 decibel. With suppressor it was 64 decibel. Now I don't know how accurate the phone app is. All shots were subsonic. Every round cycled good and shooting at 50 yds maybe a 3 to 4 inch group. And that's shooting off my 4 wheeler seat.

I was shooting the Berry's at 1020 to 1045 fps
