Sitting here, going through my tackle, and I started thinking about my very first boat. It was a 1950’s something Glastron, closed bow, no windshield, and a transom that was bolted together with a couple 3’ sticks of all-thread and a 2x6. Haha
The starter was shot, and in my youth, I decided to tie two batteries together to jack 24v to it. 🤣
It worked for a couple seasons, until the starter finally grenaded. I was probably 18 years old and broke. Funny thing was, I found a used starter, after that, for like $15. YOUNG AND DUMB!
The side of the boat had a sticker that said “da boat” with the lettering in the shape of a fish. I remember making that sticker in a robotics class, thinking I was the cats ass. Ha!

I ran that boat for 6-7 years, before getting a 16’ Smokercraft.

Curious what others started out with??

Just had a motor for many years and just rented a boat for fishing. Seamed like every lake had a farmer that rented those little 12 ft boats for like 5 bucks a day. In 1983 got a 14ft lund and used that until 2008 when I got my 16-5 Alumacraft sc. LB

1995 16 ft Lund angler with a 60 2 stroke merc tiller.
this boat defined my fishing in 2 ways. Tiller life is where it’s at, my unapologetic HATRED for merc engines.

My first watercraft was a float tube and swim fins. Shot lots of ducks from it and caught so many fish out of that stupid tube it's ridiculous. Great trip down memory lane V. Thanks!

1966 Sears 14' with 6hp Mercury took a long time to get anywhere, but it was the real deal for pulling spinners.

1975 Fiberglass Sea Star semi tri-hull. Sparkly rose in color, with a white bottom. Open bow, walk through windshield. 75 hp 2 stroke merc. had a flasher in the dash, that never did work. No speedo, no tach. No idea how many rpms it did. My dad and I ran that boat on the Missouri River for probably 8 years, never knowing how deep the water was. We hit some bars in the beginning, but I got real good at reading the river.

1990-16ft Mirrocraft aggressor. 40 hp mariner magnum. 36 thrust troller hooked up to a hummingbird 30 flasher. Also had an impulse 2800 LCD graph. That little boat was a great fish catcher. Guaranteed a wet ride on sac

19XX Starcraft 14' with a 15 HP Evinrude. Called it the Aluminum Bathtub. Never serviced the motor but it started on 1 or 2 pulls every time, even with years old gas. Bought it for $1000, had it for about 10 years, sold it for $1000.

1983 SeaNymph with a 25 Merc tiller came with a Lawrence flasher, was a nice boat to ride in on a hot day, when the one foot waves soaked you. But did get into places that the bigger boats couldn't when Oahe went down to nothing in the early 90s

2000 alumacraft 175 trophy sport. Boat had a lot of build up damage from sitting on a lift on a lake, I believe Ashtabula. Spent a summer and some $$ on several hull cleaning products and finally got it removed. Look real good after that. Had an upgraded Suzuki 4 stroke on it and that was my favorite motor I've owned.

1970 Lund S-14 with a well used 25 HP Johnson that would run periodically. Lived in Bottineau at that time and spent an insane amount of time in that boat on Metigoshe.
