This winter began for me on November 11th...caught 5 walleye thru the ice on Nelson Bay - Lake Audubon...earliest I had ever been on fishable ice. Looking at the 30 day forecast, might have fishable ice into May. So when will this "winter" end? How long are we gonna have fishable ice in North Dakota?

Getting a feeling field work is going to be behind this year, unless after next week we get 50-60 degree temps and have a mad flash flood runnoff, winter seems to want to stick around, crazy for April thats for sure, see bismarck getting more snow.

if you look at the 14 day outlook - it appears to be moving east (the cold stuff). The 90 day still shows colder than normal expectations.

I have seen it worse

In 2013 we had fishable ice into May on Devils. I went on May 5th or 6th that year. I prefer it to end much earlier.

It ends when you get into the truck, point it south, and drive until you feel better again. IF you stay put, it ends when road construction begins.

Another blast next sunday

LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday)
Issued at 417 AM CDT Mon Apr 2 2018

Some snow and patchy blowing snow in southeast North Dakota and west
central Minnesota is possible on Tuesday as the system from the
previous day moves out. High pressure moves in leading to cool and
dry conditions Wednesday. On Thursday a cold front will move across
the Northern Plains which may bring some flurries with it.
Confidence in these flurries occuring is very low as there is model
disagreement and only ECMWF has a strong signal for it. High
pressure settles in again on Friday which continues the cool and
quiet weather. The next chance for snow comes on Sunday as an upper
level trough moves into the Northern Plains. This systems could
produce a significant amount of snow but the track of the surface
low is still uncertain. The track of this surface low will have a
major impact on precipitation type and amount.

With these cold days and nights below freezing, this has the potential of really turning into something pretty ugly. I don't have confirmation or connections out west, but heard lower elevation snowpack was melting. I can only imagine the destruction potential that exist if we get a ton of water with these ice jams, especially along the Yellowstone. Those ice chunks can rip big trees right out of the ground. I've seen it where half of the ramp at the Confluence is in the water.

Exactly...this ice season will set records for me...earliest on (Nov 11) and latest on...whatever day in May is the last day I venture out onto the ice! Costing me another month of storage fees for the boat...sheeeesh!

I'm beginning to thing Yeti coolers should come with some kind of warning to keep them closed when not in use. This is the kind of shit they're known to do.

Sorry man, back when I started there it was made very apparent to me that we are in advertising, not production. Trust me, if I could, I would!
