Just knowing the days are getting longer makes me happy. Does anyone else dislike short days and long nights ? Some people are not affected then there is me who would be happy with 24/7 sunlight.

I can't wait for the solstice every winter. Getting dark at 4:30 in the afternoon puts me in a foul mood.

I always stop at the peak of the solstice and make fun with the fact I feel the earth stop tilting away from the sun and start moving back to it!
Sorry ice fisherman but I'm ready for open water.Thumbs Up

I sometimes wonder if you are a long lost brother of mine. Even a stretch of cloudy days make me sad or grumpy.

Since I have insurance now I get my blood work done twice a year last spring I found out that I was abnormally low on my vitamin D. The doctor asked if I ever felt sluggish more then usual during the winter months in the past and yeah I have always felt more gloomy during the winter months. She said I may need to look at a vitamin supplement with a higher dosage of vitamin D. Also may need give light therapy a try becuase some people are effected more than others with seasonal affective disorder SAD. So I have to say that it's real I started using the light and taking vitamin supplements with my high blood pressure meds. Its has made it easier to deal with the winter blues I have more energy then before just 30 minutes is enough. I dont drink or do drugs so I not a big fan of getting high for the sake of getting high. I dont even drink coffee so any kind of stimulants I feel it right away and that therapy light was very intense for the first week. If you feel more irritated during the winter months give it a try. Next year after I pay off my debt I will be looking at spending some time down in Arizona where SAD isn't as bad as it it's up here in the northern states.
Just thought I would share

i pay attention... the other day in our daily safety meeting i told the guys that in 1 week the days are gonna start getting longer, and spring is coming... i work 8 on and 6 off and figure in 8 more hitches i will be back in the boat...

to get me through, i'll set the spot lock on the portable a few days this winter and pass the time... fwiw, i have found some really nice honey holes in the winter when i'm bored and looking for the "spot on the spot"... it has payed dividends on open water when the going gets tough...

Staying busy is the key , Seems like about the time we set the clocks back I sit down and relax too much. I noticed guywhifishes mention feeling sluggish in another thread and I think there is a lot to the daylight biological clock. Bucks are earlier than humans , Anyone else feel like they are going into rut ?

To put it simply, it just plain sucks. This year I’ve added vitamin D supplement and focus on exercise. Winter goals help. I want to put another ice sturgeon topside this winter. Need the Rainy to get a little more firm:)

I used to get it bad. The key for me is always being near windows since I have an office job. Back in the late 90s for three years I worked in an office that was in the interior of a building with no windows. I had no energy during the winter, felt like death warmed over

I look forward to the solstice party every year! Although now it means I actually need to start getting serious on my winter projects. I got 3 bows that need final tiller sitting on the work bench and a whole bunch of spuce burls that were supposed to get carved before Christmas. However, I'll probably just sit in the garage sipping on Busch Light and wonder if the salmon are thinking about me too.

Here is a photo I snapped in Golovin, AK last week. This was the high noon sun. Ya, I'm ready for more daylight........ IMG_3780.jpg

I like winter for a little while. Calling coyotes and ice fishing. But the short days are depressing. Go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. The years where we have an actual winter from November until April take years off of my life.
