I have been hauling my 2 youngest kids to school every morning, and every morning about 100 "wives" come driving through in theIr suburbans to drop their one kid off. They turn wide, park with the tail end of the totally unnecessary giant grocery getter hanging in the driving lane, take up 2 spots when parked, feel it necessary stop in the center of the road at a stop sign making it impossible for anyone turning right able to get to the right side and turn when traffic is busy from the other direction.

Any of you guys buy these huge vehicles for your incapable wife to drive? And if so why? Is it a status thing trying to show off your extreme wealth with the old lady driving a 70,000 vehicle? Maybe it's that one to two kids you have each need their own row of seats, or is it the 6 bags of groceries the old lady might pick up won't fit in a vehicle she is actually capable of driving.

Rant over, but G damn it teach the girl how to drive the big sonsabitches.

I agree 110%. I think they are bought because women these days want to prove that they can handle and drive what men can. Don't misunderstand me, some women can drive an over sized vehicle, but some CANT! Hell, some men cant handle a vehicle that big! The women that cant handle a vehicle that big will never admit it, and will continue to drive their big, over sized lack of a peeper! The whole time telling you how ssstupid you are for bringing up their lack of driving skills behind the wheel of their behemoth grocery getter.

Maybe women just like driving a big, safe vehicle when their cubs are in the backseat. And maybe some men like driving minivans because of the obvious tactical advantages.

Ha, tactical advantage is the mom that showed up last night to watch her kid play soccer in a blue Z06 vette.

you ever try to load 3 kids, a 2 kid stroller, a weekends worth of hunting gear, a pack and play and all the wifes luggage in a prius? It doesn't work.

i'll admit when we first moved to ND i pushed her to get a bid SUV. Unsure how she would handle driving in the snow (she is female after all). I found it safest. we have 3 kids 2 in car seats. Now we are looking at smaller SUV's and they are freeking small now. Theres no way to put 2 car seats and a third kid in one row. New cars freakin suck. oh and all the car sales man say is get a mini van.

My wife drives grain truck and loads hay and feeds cows with a loader tractor so I think she can handle an suv.

Oh and no one knows how to park in ND. If you need proof go to the Bismarck Scheels youd think there was snow covering the lines year round.

Hey guys cut them some slack, its not easy to drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time. Peggy and Nancy need to compare notes on real housewives now!

Wife drives a subaru legacy. We're currently looking for an SUV and I thought it was just my husky body that thought they were really small for being an SUV. There's no possible way to squeeze a pickup and tahoe in the garage.

The Wife has Expedition EL. Pretty damn close to a bus. But its what we needed to haul 3 kids, a dog, camping and fishing gear. also helps having a another vehicle that can tow the same load my F150 can.
Back up camera is the cats ass for my wife. Using it i give her credit to get that land barge backed into almost any spot

We've got a yukon xl. But, got it used for 22k I believe. With 3 kids, 2 dogs and 2 in car seats, there is no other option for weekend trips with all the accessories other than a minivan. But, we live in the country where the snow blows in so AWD or 4x4 is a must. Not many minivans fit that bill anymore. Presently, I think it's just a Toyota and they are hard to find for a good price. The other thing is that longer vehicles with frames handle much better on wash board gravel and last a bit longer on the same than those shorter unibodies. Anyway... for us it's function over form. Oh ya... and forgot about towing boat from time to time. Wish dodge made one on a full frame with a hemi

The tahoes suck when you have the 3rd seat in you can't even fit a grocery bag in the back, so if you want to be able to haul the boat or trailer a lot of people get the suburban vs the explorer, traverse, etc.. We got a traverse with the tow package have hauled an 18ft boat a couple times and it does just fine. I like that 3rd row seats fold flat and are quick and easy to flip up. When they are up I can still fit a smaller cooler and luggage in the way back. Or you can fold just part of the 3rd row down and fit all kinds of stuff plus you don't have to take seats in and out. Bad part they look like a minivan, gas mileage in town is 15-17 and on the highway 23-26 if your nice, over 80 take 2mpg off that. If you drive a lot of gravel I would be worried about all the plastic and timing chains and struts are known problems if you aren't on top of maintenance.

I need to apologize right up front. When I read the ranting and raving about mom's driving a Big vehicle my immediate thought was. "If that's your biggest problem you've got it pretty good."

I find my biggest advantage to being pretty much retired is that I don't get worked up over very much. At the end of the day if I sit in line a few minutes extra it really doesn't amount to much. Relax and enjoy life. Happy is much better than mad. Have a great day and better to be pissed off at me than some mother who is most likely frantically trying to get through her day.

best ride and layout for mid-size SUVs is the Toyota Highlander. Drove every make/model there is. Gal ended up with used Lexus instead.
