Back in the day the old timers used to look at a butchered cow or butchered pigs spleen and tell how the winter was going to be.

Wife saw one that was roughly 1/3 brown. We have Tons of acorns and wasp nests are low this year. If the old timers were still around they would be saying we are going to have a cold winter with just enough snow to hook up the bobsled and cutter.


I saw two hornet nests so far, one was in the box of a old pickup and the other at the edge of the woods about 4-5 feet high, supposedly a wasps nest built low to the ground, expect little snow. If you see one built high, expect a lot of snow. "See how high the hornets nest it tells how high the snow will rest."
