I don't get out as much as I'd like so I go no matter the conditions. However I generally can find a place out of the wind to fish. I was at Graphams island on Devils last year, and the wind was around 25mph out of the southeast. I took my shallow v 14' lund w/15hp out and had a long drive to get out of the wind. I was taking it easy and kinda riding the waves slowly making headway, the front would pound pretty hard when I came down but it really wasn't bothering me. When I got around the island and tried using my trolling motor I found the brand new battery's post had separated from the cells from the pounding it took in the front. On the way back into the waves some a-hole in a big ass glass boat flew past me at about 20ft to my starboard, not only did it scare the titty sprinkles out of me. but caused a very dangerous wake that I had very little time to prepare for by the time I realized what happened the wake was right next to me I chose to turn away from them and caught one breaking against the side which changed my direction so fast I fell out of my seat and smoked my head against the side rail. As quick as I could I got up and grabbed and turned the boat back into the waves going over the next one at an angle when I bottomed out I watched as the next wave just barely broke over the side by about a 1/2 inch. I think any other way it would have happened I would have swamped my boat in 30fow high winds and no one around. By the time I got back to the ramp the guy was gone and I had blood running down the whole side of my face and soaked my shirt. I tried locating the guy in the campground but didn't see anything I thought the boat looked like. He would have gotten an ear full. But I did keep 4 walleyes around 18-20" I threw about 6 more that size back looking for a monster in about 2hrs. Long story short: if you see a small boat out in bad conditions be considerate and give a wide berth.
