    Useless to Useful

Wow! Took all of 15 posts to turn a positive thread into an attack. Well at least I can say I tried. Later Boys. See you after the election.

    Useless to Useful

Thought I'd start a thread with something positive in an effort to offset ongoing negativity and moshpit theatrics. I have a few 275 gallon liquid totes previously used for firewood, where the bottom pallet is busted up pretty bad. Instead of tossing the whole thing out to clutter up the...

    Garden!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's pretty much it Bud. Popped some holes about an inch above the bottom to leave a reservoir of water and set them on the ground. I'm pretty sure some of those pepper plants whispered "feed me Seymour" as you walked by.

    Garden!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We forayed into bucket gardening for the first time last summer. Peppers grew like wildfire in the buckets. We did learn that the buckets need to be in direct contact with the ground. We had dozens of buckets on our deck and ALL of them overheated and the plants were embarrassingly dismal and...

    Drought?

    Drought sucks. That is all.

    Garden!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I try to fill the bottom with something besides black dirt. I like to use junk wood if I can find it like cottonwood, boxelder, willow, etc. Anything but pine. If I can't get that, I'll use whatever decomposable material I can find such as square bales, brush from tree trimming and the like...

    Bismarck high water.

Yep! Lasts longer too. That's why they made the crackers in each MRE. Binds a guy up like baling wire and bondo put together.

    Garden!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to put together another 8 raised garden beds. Each will be 4X8 and 40 inches tall. I built 4 of them a couple years ago and boy do I like NOT having to bend over or crawl on the ground to weed. I can just crack a beer, lean on the side, and pick away in comfort and style. Easier to...

    Smoking Northerns

In a way. I always pat down the fillets with paper towels right before I put them in the smoker. The slight dampness of the meat really takes the smoke well. Now you guys have me wanting to smoke some fish.

    Smoking Northerns

True. Leaving the skin on will hold the meat together better, but that comes at a price. The price is that the skin continues to produce the slime we all love, even after death. The skin produces it even in the brine and I found that at the end of the brine soak there was always a layer of...

    What would you do??

The pic would be enough for me. It's a carp. A nicely colored carp, but a carp.

    Collectibles

About the only collection I have that's worth mentioning is my various containers of random nuts, bolts, nails, washers, staples, and other hardware that I just can't seem to part with and in all likelihood NEVER use. I also can't manage to keep it from growing either. I may have a...

    Smoking Northerns

Done hundreds of pounds of smoked northern. Some of what I've found. First, the bigger the fish the better. Just standard fillet with skin off. Don't worry about the ribs or Y bones. After you get done smoking them if you use a fork and press down on the ribs or where the Y bones are, they...

    Hamburger from a grown bull?

Not worried about USDA grade at all. The long and short of it is I've had 3 opportunities in the last few years to get a full grown bull without cost, but didn't have the right pieces in place to deal with it. Nor did I know if all the effort would result in 800 lbs of dog food instead of...

    Hamburger from a grown bull?

Either one really. I've been trying to help those less fortunate over the last couple years and meat seems to be top on the list of groceries that get skipped. I've got the machinery, know how, time, and stupidity to maybe take on an unwanted bull, make it into burger, and let some folks have...

    Hamburger from a grown bull?

Yeah, I remember the "bologna bull" term as well. I was just wondering if a guy fine ground the meat and mixed in some good kidney fat from butcher weight steers and heifers if the burger would make grade so to speak.

    Hamburger from a grown bull?

Anybody on here ever eaten hamburger they knew was from a full grown bull? Just curious about flavor, toughness, and overall usability. Thanks!

    Daytona 500

Rode my motorcycle to Daytona the week of the 500 once. Will NEVER recommend that to anyone. Every bumpkin, schlep, and dinglefritz thinks they are in the 500 and can drive like them. Dangerous as all hell.
