To start out the bunch, I bought my son a Tikka T3 in 243.  It fits the 11 year old quite well and comes with an interchangeable butt pad/stock extension for when the boy gets older.  He took out his first deer with it this past weekend with about a 140 yard shot.  Badda bing, bada boom.</p><p></p><p>Note, I looked at all the cheaper rifles, the Howa (nice action glued to a fricking 4x4 nowadays...taking advice from Savage of yesteryear???), Ruger American (just smells cheap), Mossberg (hate their shotguns, can their rifles be any better?), and the Savage (getting better, but still junk IMHO). I came pretty close to a Remington model 700 which I already own and love, but the Tikka was partially a novelty buy for me.</p></blockquote><p></p>
