Hypothetically, if I am going to pay $250 to kill a deer I would be after a trophy mule deer.  I would wait until the rut to do that because I believe that would be my best chance of filling the tag.  However, I didn't mention that Labor Day weekend helps many R and NR hunters because that is a free vacation day...as stated, not really being much of a deer hunter (nor do I care about), I did not even consider the fact that of harvesting a deer in velvet.  If velvet was my goal I would definitely be looking at a different state...I am in no way fighting for NR hunters, I am just trying to give you a point of view from a NR...it will not hurt me one bit if ND decided that the first two weeks of bow season was for residents only, and if you want go ahead and double the tag prices!  I have a son that will gun hunt for deer here in NE and I will be with him because I enjoy hunting, but besides does that I shot for non hunters that like deer meat, the last buck I shot was at least 7 years ago and that was with muzzleloader...not in the rut either!Unfortunately I have never been to TRNP or the surrounding grasslands.  However, if my son, dad, and I return next June for my son's birthday to fish Sakakawea I would like to swing through and see it on the way home.</blockquote>
