Just got back yesterday from Big Windy. Was our first time and had a great trip! We had 8 guys and our slowest day still produced around 100 fish. Went out of Warner Rd. There is plenty of parking there, they even cleaned up the ice on Friday to smooth it out for a parking lot. The first 1/2 mile is pretty rough from the warm week they had up there but once you get past that, it is pretty good. We used a tracked ranger and wheeler as well as a ranger with wheels. All got around fine, but the tracked vehicles were able to go a bit faster. There were a lot of pickups on the ice but I wouldn't take mine out there and beat it up with how rough the ice is. Ended up finding our best fish about 3.5 miles out from the mouth. Tons of fish in that 14-16" year class. No fish from 18-22" which I thought was weird. We ended up with 4 over 28" the biggest being 29 7/8" and 2 more over 24". Anything pink worked best for us. Snooty from DirtyMike was the best rattle bait and the pink Pelican spoon was the best spoon. Plenty of ice, we didn't need the extensions but it was nice to have so we didn't have to bend over to the ice every time. We didn't cross the pressure ridge as we didn't feel like risking our rigs but I talked to a couple of guys who did and found fish out in 20-22 feet of water. I know we probably missed the best years up there, but there are not many places I can go and have a chance to catch that many fish over 28".
