[QUOTE="KDM, post: 110796, member: 314"] As the OP is about cats I will use cats in my response, but my response applies to dogs, pigs, horses, etc. etc. etc. It all comes down to courtesy and respect. It is incumbent upon the cat owner to keep their cat within the confines of their property. Plain and Simple. I find it very distasteful that folks oftentimes forget that little fact. I take responsibility for my animals and do everything I can to keep them ON my property and I expect others to do the same. I give the cat owner three chances to keep their cats ON their property and OFF mine. The first contact is face to face where I courteously explain that I would really like them to keep their cat on their property and give them reasons why in the interest of good relations. The second contact, should I find the animal on my property again, is usually by phone and the exchange is usually less than cordial as I've already had to deal with this issue once before and laws, responsibilities, rights, and actions are put forth for continued occurrences. The third time is fully confrontational where I explain my rights as a landowner and lay out the consequences for continuing to ignore the issue. After that, I feel I've done my due diligence and it is NOT me that is being disrespectful and out of line. IMO, everybody has the right to HAVE or NOT TO HAVE a cat and the reasons for either choice are irrelevant. However, choosing to have a cat doesn't negate the right of others who choose NOT to have a cat and those who choose NOT to have a cat on their property don't need to explain themselves to cat owners. As a cat owner, be courteous and respectful of your neighbors who choose NOT to have cats by keeping your cats where they belong. If you are unable or unwilling to do so, I fail to see how those who don't want your cat around can be at fault when events occur. Again, this is my attitude towards any animal, not just cats.
