Message: <blockquote data-quote="snow" data-source="post: 81355" data-attributes="member: 1056">Lunker,your info is so off base coming from an outsider is actually funny,you do realize the leech lake band has sole gathering rights on leech just like red lake,and they do gill net before our walleye season opens with nets out during opener but this small tribe takes a very small amout of walleyes compared to the 8 tribes gill netting mille lacs,"sport anglers take 3x's more walleyes than gill netters?" check  this stat out,the red lake nation took 1million pounds of walleyes that we non natives stocked in 2014,sport anglers took 200k lbs and we can only fish 1/3rd of the lake.Further after red lake re-opened so did the red lake commercial fishing operations,the 1st two years was tribal hook-n-line only with no slot and a 10 walleye daily limit, even tho the fishing was hot and heavy as we see it today the tribe decided they weren't catching enough walleyes to make it wortjh while,so here we are today,3rd year of commercial fishing with netts and guess what,our dnr is in a tail spin over the amount of walleyes being netted they clamped down on the sport fisher folks last season,two fish daily with a tight 2" slot.What do you know about hooking mortality? its purly a guess-a-mate on the dnr side,the lake is a ghost town,few folks venture out unless they live on mille lacs,its not worth the drive for one walleye.Website for the meeting I was at? are kidding,it was a closed door meeting,for reasons of privacy the tribes demand no public attendance,pretty sure they don't want confrontation from the locals losing everything they own.But agreed,we need intervention regarding this issue,its sad as we can only sit and wait while the nets are destroying our lake and mom&pop resorts,resturants and business's are only shells of what they were.</blockquote>
