If you notice, the 150 is actually used as their commercial version, so I suspect it is a tough engine - it is their old 225 chassis. Displacement of the 150 is 3 litre with the 175 at 1.70 liter. And why is that important, low end torque of an engine is always proportional to displacement. The blower doesn't get to full efficiency until max rpm. The hole shot on the 150 is very good - better than 175. The 175 catches up later in the engine curve. I talked to a dealer who told me that the 150 dynos 163 hp, he said you had to round up to get 175 HP out of the 175. The 150 is a little lighter, a little simpler. The 150 is significantly cheaper with the only thing you give up is an electronic shift. In summary I am extremely happy with the 150 hole shot, goes plenty fast and the fuel consumption is good and your boat will be a little lighter than mine - so should be better.
I recently purchased a 1875 ProV (biggest that fits in my garage) with a 150 Merc after doing a lot of research on the engine. If you do a little digging on the Merc site you will find that the 150 burns pretty close to half the fuel of the 175, Top speed is a little less but pretty close.
